Outlook Search not showing Recent Emails (December-2021)
Hi All,
The outlook search option stopped working properly after WIndows10 update.
The issue has happened after installing a security update from Windows (December 14, 2021âKB5008212).
I had tried re-building the Indexing but it was same. Once the issue started I had searched for the solutions and finally found that recent Windows update has created the issue. I had uninstalled that particular update and the search issue was fixed.
So let us know when the fix will be available for this bug?

Hi everyone!
I had the same problem as all of you and have been struggling a lot at work due to the high level of emails...the search bar makes it much easier to reply.
Anyway, I end up not doing any of the recommendations above, purely because today, while I was almost uninstalling the update that caused all of this (KB5008212), I noticed there was a new update (21H1) in line. So I deciced to update first before doing anything else, as this update could bring the fix I need it....and guess what? All problems solved!!! My outlook search bar is perfectly working now. Already restarted my laptopp and so far, no more issues!
Hope this solves your problems too!
- MyasirkhanCopper ContributorSolved with the new update. Thank you for your useful information

Myasirkhan which one? I didn't saw any updates for my Windows or Outlook.

fabio_faria I just checked for updates and 21H1 didn't even appear. I had just uninstalled 8212 before seeing your post, and that didn't fix things for me. I haven't tried re-indexing yet
- SBCmikeCopper ContributorUninstalling 8212 fixed the problem without re-indexing (it just took a little while for it actually happen). I don't see the 21H1 update when I check for updates, but I'm wondering if I will get notified of it without 8212 installed.

yes i tried the same .... then rebuild the Index .... that works but when i download my new emails they are not getting Indexed ! cant keep running Rebuild Index again and again ...... it takes almost 12 hours for me fabio_faria
- achirasd026Copper ContributorHi,
I also tried same and seems to be only option is to runing index. Seems to be this update has stoped automatically indexing new emails.
But you do not need to rebuilt it always. There is a simple trick until solution come.
Open Indexing Option. Then Go to Windows/start menu --> type "Services" --> Double Click on Services App-->go to "Windows Search"--> Right Click --> and select restart.
This will not rebuild all index, but start indexing from paused. in seconds after you do this, recents emails will be appear in seach results...
- Spina75Copper ContributorI have had many problems as of late when trying to search emails that I know i have but the index isnt locating them. I have tried this and it seems to work for me, just stinks that I need to do this every day when I look at my work emails.
Open Outlook to receive all my recent emails.
Once done downloading emails, close Outlook.
Control-Alt-Delete to open Task Manager.
Locate Microsoft Windows Search Indexer.
End that task.
Close Task Manager and re-open Outlook.
After all that, I can now search all my email again and locate all emails, not just older emails.....- Lisa_M_TaraCopper ContributorThis worked for me Spina75, Thanks for the post. Hopefully Microsoft will fix this soon
- dragonbaby27Copper Contributorhi to all whom it may concern, apply the update 21h2 actually solve the issue as my company is facing the same issue. Its either u rebuidl the index or apply update 21h2.
- JohanCoBrass ContributorThere is no fix yet for either Window 10 or 11
- Franco1961Copper ContributorI received an automatic update on my computer a couple of days ago. Since then my search in outlook is working fine. I am not able to say whether this is a permanent or temporary fix. I will give further feedback at the end of the week. I have windows 10, 21H1, OS build 19043.1466
So, this might be a temporary or permanent fix for windows 10 but not necessarily for windows 11. If anyone wish to know which update I received, please guide me where to look for the relevant KB number in my computer and I will look into it, as I do not know how to do it myself.- JohanCoBrass ContributorHello Franco
Go into your search under your start icon on task bar type is "Windows update settings" then go to "update history" you will find the KB number there.
Does anybody know if i could roll back to Windows 10?

Hi,
Does your search still working?
Last week before christmas I uninstaled update KB5008212 to. After computer restart, all recent emails were indexed and search worked as it should until I made shutdown for pc. The next day when I turned back on PC I found that all new emails were not indexed. Outlook showed 0 items remain to be indexeg but these last emails clearly were not indexed. Then I did restart and run Outlook again, and in search options I saw a number of emails where indexed. As I understand indexing works untill you make a shutdown for your PC, after it indexing stops working. So uninstaling update KB5008212 did not solved the problem. Microsoft, please give some feedback. In my company there are around 160 users with this problem after update KB5008212.
- VineeshKV88Copper ContributorRebuild the Indexing, it should work fine.
- JohanCoBrass Contributoronly for a short while

Good day All,
The same issue here. Uninstalling update KB5008212 did not solved the problem. After shutdown your computer and turning back on next day newest emails is not indexing at all, though outlook shows 0 items remains to be indexed. Then If you reboot computer indexing starts working again. Using MS Office 2019 H&B.

- JohanCoBrass ContributorYes this is the most frustrating issue they could ever land on us i wish they get this fix ASAP
- Ravindra_1977Copper Contributor
@ have same issue form last week (after 17 DEC 2021).
not solve yet.
- VineeshKV88Copper ContributorRebuild the Indexing, it should work fine. Rebuild only if its not working even after uninstalling the update KB5008212.
- Franz2803Copper Contributor
Rebuild indexing is no valid solution. Problem reoccurs after reboot đ
- Dax8585Copper ContributorSame too, I have like thousands of email each and can't filter out
- VineeshKV88Copper ContributorPernille-Eskebo Any update on the fix for this bug in update?
Selecting ''Include Older Result'' from Search Options every time is not practical. So need a fix from the updates itself.- Dax8585Copper Contributor
VineeshKV88 Uninstalling update KB5008212 and restart. my search working well now
- Redzuan635Copper Contributor
VineeshKV88 well I guess Microsoft still has a very good dream right now. enjoying their brand new windows. well, I'm using windows 11pro also had the same problem, and lots of my team have the same issue.

Microsoft has informed that all users of outlook using older versions of outlook - Outlook 2007, 2010, and Office 2013 versions earlier than 15.0.4971.1000 - will not be able to use soon. I think this update is for this reason only..
Upgrade your outlook to resolve issues..- Franz2803Copper ContributorMost of my customers have actually Outlook 2019 installations and the problem is present on all the computers. Hundreds ....
