New Outlook Editor uses wrong language for Spell Check

I'm using the new Outlook (Version 1.2024.403.300; Client Version 20240405002.10) on Windows 11. English (US) is the default language installed on my system and used by all other Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, etc).

However, after sending one email in French last week, now the Microsoft Editor in Outlook will only spell check in French on all new messages.

I can add English to the Editor under "Multiple Languages", but after restarting Outlook it sometimes reverts back to French as the only language listed.

dpruth adding myself to the feed for when a solution pops up. Same thing happens with me after sending one email in Spanish. It keeps reverting to Spanish spell check, even after I add multiple languages or delete Spanish from the editor. Fingers crossed for a solution as this is an annoying bug.

From your outlook web go to new message Home>New Message open the new message as if you want to compose a new message. go to Option>Editor>Editor Setting> click on Manage Spellcheck language>Add another language, Select your desired language as a proofing language> click on Add, click on the three dots ... beside the language you would like to remove and click delete. click done, and your preffered language is saved. This worked for me.

This is exactly the problem. It seems to save this config for the local session only and when Outlook or the machine is restarted - it lost and we have to start over with super annoying red-lines. tundeoladipupo

This works for few hours/minutes. This seems to be reset shortly after. This is then not a permanent fix for my case.

Same here. IT (Italian) is the default desired language, but Outlook keeps reverting to EN, completely removing Italian.

It does seem that the issue is still not resolved, and the suggested work around has to be applied sometimes several times a day. This is a nightmare.

I hope that a fix or definitive correction will be communicated soon.

I received this reply from Microsoft support today:

Further investigating on this issue, we have identified that the action "language which you added under spell check are removed once you restart the outlook" have to be known problem in the product. The product team has been made aware of this concern, and they are actively working on it. At this point in time, we have no final date available as it is too early in the process, hence ETA is still unknown. Please make sure you keep Office up to date to take advantage of feature updates as well as product corrections.

It seems like after providing feedback from Outlook/Help/Send Feedback, I got contacted by the support within Outlook App and this was suggested (and worked for me):

request you to click on the new mail option to compose new email.

Once the new mail window is pop up you can see the Options tab in the ribbon, Click on Options tab Editor Editor Settings Click on Manage spell check languages Add the language Click on Done.

Yes, this works temporarily. But in my experience, the editor setting soon (within a few days to a week) eventually reverts back to French
