Disable Ctrl+enter to send mail

In older versions of Outlook there was an option to enable Ctrl+Enter to send mail.  Not sure how I'm hitting the key combination so much, but I've almost sent multiple messages prematurely.   Is there a method to disable that in the New Outlook?

WTF? This just happened to me. Why would you use a common shortcut that is used in Microsoft Word for a non-breaking return to SEND AN EMAIL?!?!

As noted, this is also a common shortcut for non-breaking return in Teams

    That is pure insanity.

I've never used it to remap Ctrl+Enter. But it works fine for other Ctrl+ combinations.

  • Keyboard shortcuts for executing actions are always in demand. However, sending an email typically doesn’t require one. That’s why in Classic Outlook, the option to disable it is also available.

As far as I’ve seen, the New Outlook doesn’t offer a dedicated keyboard shortcut for sending emails.

    An egregious oversight by Microsoft.

I can't imagine the demand for users to have a shortcut for sending is greater than the demand for it to not exist.

Either give us a setting to remove just that, or eliminate it as a shortcut option.

I couldn't agree more.  This shortcut is incredibly annoying and accidentally sending emails to upper management with no text entered yet is downright embarassing.   MS needs to FIX THIS.

It appears that new outlook now only allows you to turn off all keyboard shortcuts, rather than specific ones. I understand it is beneficial for unification between apps/platforms but it does seem like a regression in accessibility to me.

Since I sent an email early and that can potentially cause confusion/reputational issues, I am just going to turn all shortcuts off in outlook.

Another workaround - until Microsoft gets around fixing this - is to NOT put any recipients on until you're done writing the email. Then you just get a message saying "this message must have at least one recipient."

But seriously, this should really be priority for microsoft. Think of the amount prematurely sent emails everyday because of this 😞

In Outlook, Go to File, Options, Mail. Look for the Ctrl+Enter option in the 'Send Messages' section about halfway down the page and remove the ☑ Check box and you are Done.

General > Accessibility > Keyboard shortcuts
    [x] Turn off keyboard shortcuts

There is a full list you can see by clicking on the "To see the full list of supported shortcuts, press the ? (question mark) key or click here."

Then within this section there is another link "Outlook for Windows-style shortcuts are selected. To change, go to Settings."

However it doesn't seem to have the ability to change/edit. It just pushes you back into "Settings".

As I don't really use any shortcuts I just disabled to stop accidentally sending emails when copy pasting and using enter for a next line etc... and missing "v" and just sending the email.

Getting pretty sick of this new outlook. Now I can't disable ctrl-enter without disabling all keyboard shortcuts??? Really??? MS have forced us on to this way too early.

What makes this worse is that Microsoft Teams makes use of CTRL+enter to prevent sending a message when adding a new line. Due to Teams, I've started creating the habit of pressing CTRL+enter when creating multiline Teams messages. This habit is bleeding into Outlook, which causes me to prematurely send emails.
