Add shared mailbox contacts to the new outlook for windows
In my organization, we use a shared mailbox to share a public address book. Is there a way to add it to the new Outlook for Windows?
I can see the shared mailbox correctly under ‘Mail -> Shared with Me’, but there’s nothing about shared mailboxes in the ‘People’ tab.
I have also tried to manually add the shared mailbox as a standalone account, but it just loads indefinitely after I type in the address
Outlook client version: 20231006004.16
Windows 11, build 22621.2428

This is very frustrating.
- Microsoft removes contact list sharing. 😭
- Then Microsoft recommends you use Shared Mailboxes to remedy this. 👍
- Now you can't see or edit contacts on Outlook (New). 🤦♂️
This is odd, since you can see and edit Shared Mailbox Contacts on Outlook (Classic). So, it is not like the code does not exist. 🤷♂️
THIS IS A VERY BIG DEAL! 😤
I don't know what to tell my clients. They don't want to abandon Outlook (Classic) since Outlook (New) are not addressing serious flaws in their app. They are making it easier for users not to make the move. I just don't get it! 🤔

I'm guessing the code doesn't exist in the way you're thinking. Just because it's there for the classic Outlook app doesn't mean that's transferrable or even usable in the new Outlook.
On the other hand, although I know from experience that all these features take time this should definitely be a priority for Microsoft. I'm hoping since this is still in beta form and not replacing classic Outlook yet that it will still happen.I will mention, although it doesn't work for new Outlook if someone has a shared mailbox contact list, they can sign into Outlook via the mobile app on their main account. Then, click 'add account' to add a shared mailbox and sign into that mailbox. Once there you can see those contacts. You can also sync the contacts directly to your phone's native contact list (but it's also removable) and those contacts are updated live. I've only tested on Apple devices, not Android.

This still doesn't appear to be on the roadmap for new Outlook- despite shared mailbox contacts being the Microsoft Recommended method of sharing contacts within and out of an organization.
Microsoft no longer allows linking to Microsoft Learn websites.. but it can be found be searching forSharing calendar and contacts in Microsoft 365

Original KB number: 10157 - SFewellCopper ContributorLate to the party here, but searching for it, I found your answer on the roadmap. Looks like it will be rolling out in July 2024. In the meantime, I use both new and classic Outlook.

And now it says June 2025; lack of this feature will make me go back to the old Outlook and delay recommending others in or organization switch. Sad to see it has been promised but not delivered for well over a year.
- PhilR2020Copper ContributorThanks. I saw that, but did not see any details of what that might fix and if it included 'contacts'

Hi DylanLVI,
Unfortunately, but as far as I know there is currently no way to add shared mailbox contacts to the People tab in the new Outlook for Windows.
I cannot find any official Microsoft documentation about this issue, but I have tested it myself and there is no way to do this in the New Outlook. Please click Mark as Best Response & Like if my post helped you to solve your issue.
This will help others to find the correct solution easily. It also closes the item.If the post was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Like.

This is a big deal, considering this is one of their https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/troubleshoot/calendaring/how-to-share-calendar-and-contacts methods to share an address book…
Do we even know if it is on the roadmap?
