OneDrive Personal Folder closes fast
Hi Klausiau,
By "Personal Folder" I assume you mean Personal Vault, since that is the only OneDrive folder that locks itself. If so, here are the likely causes, in the order I would try them.
1. Check the Personal Vault auto-lock setting. Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar, then Settings > Account. Under Personal Vault, set the lock timeout to a longer period. The default is 20 minutes, and a reinstall or reset can put it back to a short value.
2. Try the web. Sign in at onedrive.live.com and open Personal Vault. If it stays open there, the problem is the local client. If it also locks quickly on the web, go to step 4.
3. Check whether the Explorer window is crashing rather than the Vault locking. Run sfc /scannow in an admin Command Prompt, then DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, and restart. Also look in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application for explorer.exe errors at the moment the window closes. A third-party shell extension or antivirus can cause this, so a clean boot is worth trying.
4. Fully unlink and relink. In OneDrive Settings > Account choose "Unlink this PC", then sign back in. Reinstalling alone does not always clear the cached Vault state.
5. Check your sign-in security. Personal Vault re-prompts for identity verification (2FA or Windows Hello). If that prompt keeps failing or timing out, the Vault locks again. Make sure your security info is up to date at account.microsoft.com/security.
If none of this helps, please tell me: does the folder lock, or does the window just close? Does the same thing happen on the web? Is there anything in Event Viewer when it happens?
