VIEW ALL PARTICIPANTS IN VIDEO MEETING

We have 8 people on a daily video meeting in Teams.

Default setup gives 3 or 4 video screens and then rest only appear as small icons in the bottom corner. We need it so all 8 can be seen with the member speaking being a larger window and the others still visible in video, but in smaller tiles. (similar to how it looks in Zoom)

Is it possible to reconfigure settings?

Right, lots in this thread to unpack.

    1. The 4 video view will work in the desktop app on Windows, Mac, Linux or the mobile app on Apple or Android. It is not possible in the browser. I don't believe this is likely to change in any useful time period.

    2. The 9 video view is in development, and Microsoft have heard loud and clear from MVPs that it's important. As far as I know it won't be here during April.

    3. The view you see will always be the students that talked most recently. If you keep your students muted and unmute to speak it shouldn't be confusing to work out who is speaking.

    4. As the teacher you can select any of the students in your meeting to view their video by clicking on the ... next to their name in the list of attendees and selecting pin, once you have finished unpin to get back to active speakers.

    4. Your school districts are probably wise to not permit the use of Zoom, they have a responsibility to not allow your student data to be accessed by third parties or several other risks. Look up zoom bombing if you think it'll be fine, or when zoom were sending data to Facebook without permission, or when hackers worked out how to access private meetings.

    5. Teams has very good controls to allow you to keep order during a meeting, controlling who can speak, present etc. It's harder to achieve this in Zoom. Tips in my video attached.

  • M_SAN04 any news on this? I have dozens of angry User's gathering with their pitchforks and firebrands screaming for us to ditch Teams and use Zoom. For the love of all that is holy Microsoft, please can you fast-track this feature so I can work on other things.

M_SAN04 following, we have a staff of 18 and I have also seen the mention of this 3x3 for a year. Hoping to see that and more. Really hoping for more zoom like function.

This is something major for me which is missing in Teams at the moment. With larger audiences, it becomes really difficult to facilitate if you can only see four people at a time. Nine will improve things, but it would be great to be able to see most people. Visual feedback is much quicker to get and much more engaging than asking a question and getting no response and not being clear on whether that is due to lack of understanding, inability to find the mute button or just lack of engagement.

Mulder00 it’s pretty critical for us as an organisation at the moment, all of the hard work we have put in to persuading people to,utilise 365 to its extent are being flushed away as zoom has the one functionality that they all want

I too would like to see the real estate on my 27 inch monitor better leveraged w/ teams.  Why not offer a large centered window for the speaker, surrounded by participants in smaller video views.  The surrounding participant count could be sized  based on the number of attendees (even if they are sitting in a 1in by 1in square).

CamTheKiwi I know, I hope they make one of the next improvements to go live as it is definitely needed now more than ever!

  • Hi,

Currently it is 4 video streams maximum. There is a new view coming that will allow 3x3 (totally nine video streams). Unclear when this new feature will be released.

In the meantime while this feature is in development, is there a way to select which 4 people you see?

Yes! You can actually "pin" the people you wish to see. This choice is in the extended menu at the three dots at the top right, below "mute participant"

LinusCansby   Any updates on progress?  This user requested feature seems incredibly popular.

I am a teacher with 20-25 in a class, but in the COVID19 world, attendance will always be sporadic. Just a couple of days ago Zoom was prohibited for us due to security concerns. Now it's Microsoft Teams. But this is far inferior for what I need to do. I need to see all my students. I need to be able to divide them into small groups on the spot for conversation on topics, then feedback. All of this is super simple in Zoom, impossible in Microsoft Teams. (Laboriously setting up groups one by one in advance when you don't know who or how many will actually show up is truly pointless.) Microsoft has smart people. Why come out with such an inferior functionality?
