I believe keeping the user licensed is the only way to ensure Teams data is preserved, though I haven't bothered to play with the scenario you're describing, so I might be wrong.

- Guest users have licenses in their home tenant.
VasilMichev sure, I know what you mean. But you can invite outlook.com Users or any other free-Mailbox User (gmail.com etc.) as guests in Teams, without the need of any licence
