Teams stuck in "Loading latest updates..." error
I have been having the same error with Teams for the past few months, across two different computers, and with me having uninstalled and reinstalled Teams several times. Effectively, Teams works fine the first time it is reinstalled, but when I go to use it the following day, even if the computer has not been shut down in the meantime, I get a "Loading latest updates... in the meantime, you can still send and respond to messages" line in the toolbar. I cannot actually send or respond to messages (or receive them) while this is going on, though.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate the guidance - Teams is effectively unusable for me right now, which is a problem given how much we use it to communicate in my department.

Bit of an aged thread but ending up resolving this,
Worked through and found to be MTU related. Located in Azure which uses MTU 1500. Cloud providers use PMTUD (Path MTU Discovery) which can result in oversized packets and fragmentation esp when using lower MTU. Set MSS Clamping on outside interface interface and the problem will go away.I had this issue, along with the status stuck in "Offline" issue (momentarily changes to "Available" and immediately back to "Offline" even when you manually change status to "Available").
Tried every hack suggested online... Reset/Repair/Re-install Teams; clear cache in AppData, removing/re-adding account. Nothing worked (at least this latest time around).
Whether this was coincidental or not, what I did was open Task Manager, sort by Name, scroll down to "Background processes", and kill every Microsoft Edge WebView2 process. After doing this, wah-lah, the "Loading latest updates..." message disappeared, and my status turned green, showing as "Available".
Patto365 mentions both Teams and Edge were affected for them, so maybe there is something to this hack.
I'm sorry to say this, but Teams has been so flakey for me... I've lost so much productivity trying to cajole it to work properly.Do you have a password to access your computer? I didn’t and I was getting the same error in Teams. Try setting a password to access your computer.
I'm experiencing the same issue even in 2025. I have closed and reopened the app multiple times, but it has been recurring.
I am also experiencing this in Dec 2025. It has been ongoing for months. Randomly teams will show this banner, get stuck, and not allow me to send messages (I can type and hit send, but the circle next to the messages stays empty). I am on a work laptop running Windows 11 Enterprise. Is there any solution that works? I have tried restarting, going to Microsoft Settings > Installed Apps > Microsoft Teams > Repair AND Reset. The issue may fix for a couple minutes, but always comes back. Nothing is working.
The same thing is happening to me as well. it already 2025 and the issue is still there.

LukeLandherrhas anyone seen any fix for this that works yet? This has affected my Teams app this morning. However, I was able to copy the web address for the meeting from the meeting notice and attend through an internet browser. So, a not-complicated workaround, but still hoping there's a fix for the app.

Hi, Try removing Teams App from Task Manager as a starting app. Also remove it as Start Up app in Windows. Additionally, unmark options 'open automatically' and 'open application in background' in Teams App.
From now on, when the app updates, a bottom on the upper right part of the app will appear telling you to update it whenever you wish and it won't update automatically. I haven't got the message 'loading latest updates...' ever since.

These things were already applied to my teams, but still I am having this issue. Please let me know if you have any other suggestion. ThanksHi, the issue only resolved when I put a password to log in my computer. In the past, I did not use a password and this somehow affected Teams in the loading latest updates thing. Don’t ask me why but it worked.
- Same here, MacOS Sonoma with latest updates of both teams and OS. I suppose this since some updates applied on Teams or maybe some OS component causing this
- Have the same issue on laptop with teams.
I tried clear the teams cache it helped for a short period of time (few hours and then teams stuck again).
Reinstall do the same effect.
Interesting part sometimes teams send messages but doesn't receiving.
That's absurd.
I suspect this may be the network problem, but I can't allocate it.
But on the same network teams doesn't work on laptop but works just fine on mobile.

Same issue. Desktop Teams app and EDGE give me this issue but teams works fine on Firefox or on iOS devices. Would love someone from the team to address these issues.
