Teams stuck in "Loading latest updates..." error
I had this issue, along with the status stuck in "Offline" issue (momentarily changes to "Available" and immediately back to "Offline" even when you manually change status to "Available").
Tried every hack suggested online... Reset/Repair/Re-install Teams; clear cache in AppData, removing/re-adding account. Nothing worked (at least this latest time around).
Whether this was coincidental or not, what I did was open Task Manager, sort by Name, scroll down to "Background processes", and kill every Microsoft Edge WebView2 process. After doing this, wah-lah, the "Loading latest updates..." message disappeared, and my status turned green, showing as "Available".
Patto365 mentions both Teams and Edge were affected for them, so maybe there is something to this hack.
I'm sorry to say this, but Teams has been so flakey for me... I've lost so much productivity trying to cajole it to work properly.
