Syncing a file from a colleague's onedrive to a teams channel ?

Hi,

I would like to upload a file stored on a colleague's onedrive to a teams channel. And the tricky part is that I would like to keep the same version on both places. How do I do that ? My understanding and use of OneDrive is really poor...

  • Hi dajosh

You can't currently sync files from OneDrive to the Team, if you mean have two copies one in personal onedrive and one in the channel. There is a uservoice open for this here

    https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/16929964-allow-syncing-of-team-files-with-onedrive-sync-cli

So you can vote to push up the agenda.

However, what you can do is in Teams, go to Files, and select sync. The channels files are synced to the desktop with OneDrive. Therefore you have personal access to them on the desktop and yet the file is housed within Teams.

To also note, these will be synced in the OneDrive mobile app in Libraries. This could be argued as a more efficient way since it avoids duplication of documents and conforms to a single source of truth

    Hope that answers your question!

    Best, Chris
