Setting up TTY device for use in Teams

How can I set up a TTY device in Microsoft Teams to use during conference calls? Also, is there a type or specific list of TTY devices that are best to use with the TTY function in Teams? I understand that you can go into settings and "check" the box to enable the feature, but how do I set it up through my computer as well?

  • Hi corykukkola

See here how to enable TTY in Microsoft Teams (about halfway down)

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/manage-your-call-settings-in-teams-456cb611-3477-496f-b31a-6ab752a7595f

Like Skype for Business connect a TTY device to the machine, turn on TTY mode and sign out and back in.

Unfortunately, there doesn't look to be any specific devices that stand out on the Teams certified devices

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/across-devices/devices

So I would recommend one a good make. Hamilton CapTel looks to be a good one that is generally available. May be worth reaching out to them

    Hope that answers your question

    Best, Chris

      Hi Chris,

You wouldn't happen to know if Relay works with Teams, would you? I have a user who uses Relay on her mobile phone for making personal calls. She has switched on Live Captions and Text to Speech on her Teams desktop. She joins Teams meeting and calls most often using her mobile and we were wondering whether she would still need to connect a TTY device to her mobile for that purpose, or whether Relay would work for her while in Teams. She hasn't been successful in using it in Teams so far. We currently don't have Teams voice, but it is on its way. If we did have it and she therefore had a separate work phone number for Teams, I wonder if she could connect that to Relay and have the app work in Teams calls and meetings as it does in regular ones.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

      Thank you.
      Best wishes,
      Karen
