Opening chat in new window from Teams List

I have a Microsoft List in a Teams channel. Looking at it in Teams, one of my columns in the list is a 'person' field with employee names. Is there a way to open a chat with the person in a new window? By default it will navigate away from the channel, closing the list and losing any filters etc I had applied.
