No desktop app, no app button on Teams
- Nov 14, 2025
It sounds like you’re running into a couple of common Microsoft Teams issues. First, the “Apps” button isn’t available for personal Microsoft accounts, it’s not a bug, just a limitation set by Microsoft. Only work or school accounts have access to that feature, so there’s no way to enable it on a personal account for now. As for the desktop app problem, it might be caused by a mix-up between the personal and work versions of Teams or a broken installation. The best fix is to uninstall Teams completely, delete its cache folders, and then download the latest personal version from Microsoft’s official website (not the Store) before reinstalling it.

Thank you Charles! I did some digging before I got your response and found out that MS didn't enable the app feature. Do you know of any reason why MS would limit the app feature for personal accounts? It doesn't make sense. Zoho, Zoom, Slack and (I think) Zapier all allow app integration.
I downloaded the app via MS Store, so that's probably the issue. I got Teams fixed by signing out of the web version, reinstalling the app via MS' official site, and it works fine.
