New Teams missing from Outlook

Hi,

Installed the new Teams client and now I can't add Teams meetings in Outlook. The icon is missing. I then installed the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant which tells me Teams isn't installed.

Screenshot shows assistant with Teams running in the background.

Have we somehow forgot about the Outlook integration with new Teams?

Regards,

Andreas

If Microsoft does not demonstrate that it will remove classic Teams without disrupting the Teams Meeting add-in in Outlook, we'll create our own process to this for our users. Our plan is to deploy a script that runs in the user context at logon to 1. uninstall classic Teams, 2. immediately run the MSI to install the new Teams Meeting add-in, and 3. enable the add-in via the LoadBehavior registry value.

That is a great pity, perhaps you will bring an alternative before the end of MTC

I'm experiencing the same challenge here. It seems Microsoft is discontinuing Teams Classic on March 31st. Yesterday, I initiated the process of uninstalling Teams Classic and transitioning users to the new version, only to discover that those I switched no longer have the Teams Add-in in Outlook. Consequently, I had to reinstall Teams Classic to get it back. I'm hopeful that even if Microsoft mandates a complete switch, retaining the classic version will ensure the Add-in remains functional. The crazy thing is that the Skype for Business add-in remains no matter what!!!

This situation is reminiscent of my initial switch to the new Teams, which lacked features including the breakout rooms feature.

A Microsoft school report would say - "must try harder!" 🙂

According to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/teams-classic-client-end-of-availability they are intending to remove Classic Teams from computers. The question is whether this will cause the ADD-IN to be removed as well.

For a company of thousand of users , now we might needhttps://support.microsoft.com/en-au/office/teams-meeting-add-in-is-missing-in-outlook-desktop-after-updating-to-new-teams-f1dfc3e7-8f48-4320-823b-e13a5aca60c3 installation for each, this is madness.

    You are not alone.

There is a long thread about this here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/new-teams-meeting-add-in-is-missing-from-outlook/8e9531ce-3852-4a5b-ac1f-5a3f5d3bacf0

It appears that uninstalling classic Teams removes the Teams COM add-in from the Outlook (Microsoft 365) client, which removes the toolbar button from the ribbon in the "New Meeting" window that allows the user to create a new Teams meeting.

This is a real problem for people who do not want to use the new Outlook (which has the Teams integration without the need for an add-in).

My workaround for now is to install new Teams along side classic Teams and then use the Teams Admin Center to make new Teams the default for users in our org.

oliverbaty I actually went back to the old teams and had to uncheck the com add on and then close and reopen outlook, readd the com add on and then close and reopen outlook and now its back because I am using the old MS Teams, wow Microsoft no one testing the new teams com add on in Outlook LOL

  • Ajedesign I don't think it is due to the client as this is more of a tenant setting. But what I would advice is to reinstall office incl teams.

No, obviously I will not reinstall Outlook as everything worked fine until I installed the new Teams.

I tried reinstalling Team, didn't solve the problem. I then installed the old Teams client and voilá. Outlook is back to normal. I can book meetings and the Teams icon is present.

I then switched once again over to the new Teams but kept the old client installed. Still worked. But when I remove the old client, Outlook stops working. So the issue is clearly a desync between the old and new Teams client. Somehow the developers messed up here. Installing the new Teams doesn't automatically remove the old client and when testing things in Outlook they must have forgotten about this. Rookie mistake

Interesting! I can access the meeting in Teams calendar and toggle "Online meeting". Then Outlook will pick it up as a standard Teams meeting.
