MS Teams Select Background outside of conference call
Is there a way in MS Teams to change or 'try on' different backgrounds before or without starting a new meeting? I have been able to upload backgrounds and test them during conference calls, but hav...
- Mar 29, 2021Hey!
If you go in Calendar, then in the top right corner you click 'Meet now's, if you go in 'Start meeting' you'll get the same preview as if you were joining a meeting with someone else.

Hi, you can setup a test meeting, and then when you go to join it, you will see the following options.
Click on the third option which is;
Then you'll see the available backgrounds appear in the right pane, and you can try them without joining.

PeterRising This is not true for the Ubuntu version. I cannot find anywhere where to do this, and my job requires it. I would not like to install a different operating system but looks like I will have to.

How can I upload a background with text and to see it properly and not as a mirror?

Tali_Polke probably long-answered, but if not, try this setting...

I stumbled here looking for a way to set up backgrounds without starting a meeting.
Regardless, you can take any image into MS Paint -> select all and then "flip it horizontally" and save it. This should "mirror" the words so it shows up ok in a background. - PeterRisingMay 20, 2021MVPAt this time you can only see the mirror view
- Tomek465Mar 15, 2021Brass ContributorThis is annoying workaround. Instead better to have it in camera settings.

Teams is a complete and utter steaming pile of nonsense. It hardly works, its not intuitive, there's no consistency of behaviour and it's impossible to find settings easily to fix it yourself. What a complete failure it's been by MS. And every single peer and colleague I mention it to echo's my feelings. Do the people that work on these products ever even use them or heaven forbid test changes with focus group users before implementation? It feels like all actions taken by MS (and everyone else in Silicone Valley now) for development are for data harvesting first and foremost while user experience sits somewhere at the bottom of the list.
- ChristianBergstromMar 15, 2021Silver ContributorHello, you're replying to an old post. The "pre-join" experience is already rolled out. Meaning you can choose audio and video settings before clicking on the join button.

ChristianBergstrom normally someone (or am I not normal or not someone?) wants to prepare for meetings by having their 'stuff' set up. And for some it might sound strange... but even at a moment where you have no upcoming Teams Meeting Appointment.
What I'm trying to say is... it is STUPID to only be able to set your background image when you're in the progress of joining one or already in a meeting.

could it be that in the current version, this is not possible anymore ?
These are the only options I have, even with the camera on.

on the menu left side of the window, just go to "Teams" and in that window, to the right top right corner, you will see the option of "Meet". go into that, and click "Meet Now". then you will get all the option to select background outside of conference call.
