Moving from skype to teams does not migrate my chat history

Hello,

I have tried to login to teams using my skype username. It prompt me to merge my skype account with my personal email. I clicked yes. it successfully logged me in into Ms Teams.
I cannot see my skype chat history into teams and also not all of my contacts are there. I have enabled skype account contacts to sync from Settings => People => Sync contact => Manage but still not all contacts are synced and no chat history at all.
Anyone knows how can I import the chat history as well?

Thank you in advance

i have joined into skype inside an teams inside. now i found chat/contacts appeared in teams on win11 desktop app.

but i found other 2 problems:

1)The pictures in the chat history are incomplete, only the pictures from the most recent period are displayed, and the pictures before that are not available.

2)The web version and Android app only have the records from the last month, and the records before that cannot be displayed.

    Hello,

I recently downloaded Microsoft Teams on my PC and successfully synced and imported all my Skype contacts and chat history. However, after installing the Teams Android app and signing in with the same account, I can see my Skype contacts but not the chat history.

When I try to access the "Teams Insider Program" in the mobile app, I don’t see the option to click "Yes / Agree" to sync with Skype and import the chat history. I have attached a screenshot for reference.

Could you please advise on how to resolve this issue?

I have managed to migrate my Skype account into Teams, however- when I send some files from teams to my mom, who uses skype, she doesn't receive them.
Also - on teams I don't get missed calls notifications, unless I restart the app, they are not recorded in the chat window.
Also -what bugs me the most - I see a whole liste of "recent" chats - transferred from very very old chat conversations I have had through the years, like 15 years ago... I am trying to delete them one by one and they still show up. How can I clear this list??

I have spent TWO HOURS now, with NO luck migrating Skype chat to Teams. Typical Microsoft. I have hated you for FORTY YEARS

Hi you need to click to "teams insider programme" and the click Yes / agree to sync with skype. Then all your chats from Skype will appear. Screenshot below. Hope it helps.

Thank you. I have spent hours trying to figure out how to connect/merge. This worked for me.

The above answer did work for me.

Updated both Skype and Teams Personal to latest version.

Signed into Teams with same email I use for Skype and got some contacts but no conversations.
Went to 3 dots menu near profile pic, selected Teams Insider Program, told it I wanted to join, it restarted Teams and then prompted me to login to one of two profiles.   Selected the Skype user and now my Teams shows same contacts and up to date Skype chat histories.

My guess for those still having problems would be maybe you have a separate account email associated with your Skype username.   Check your Skype user profile and verify it matches what you used to login to Teams.     For those saying they synced long ago.  I don't think that's possible.  This is a brand new feature to Teams (newer than the official public release).     If you don't see the Teams Insider program option, you may be using Teams business edition, rather than Teams Personal.

Can confirm that this doesn't work at all. Tried and get a weird random list of contacts, with most not showing. And zero chat history.

At the moment, you need to make sure you join as "Teams Insider" then login to "Teams Personal" with your skype account. https://insider.teams.com/

There is no longer Teams Personal or Teams Free. It's now just 'Teams' but MS keep referring to the different versions when there is now only one Teams

Can you show exactly what you mean by login to Teams Personal. I did Teams insider and still have no history. I can't find teams personal in skype or here - so can you link to a PDF or show illustrations helping us to get chat history over. I don't want to chance this happening in May - want to migrate now.

I joined as "Teams Insider" by app Microsoft Teams in Windows. And I successful. Thanks you very much. In a week, I can not sync my chat history from sky to teams.

This looks like a really bad move. I merged my skype account with the microsoft account long time ago. and when I log into teams now there is no sync at all.

  • I have the same problem with Teams Free and Teams 365. I just asked Copilot Pro the same question and contrary to some promises made by Microsoft, it said that neither contact nor history will be migrated. So, what is the point of adding my Skype credential to Teams?

My test with the Teams 365 Windows App and Browser version, just gave me a bunch of error messages and then I had to perform some clean up.

It is really sad how Microsoft seems to be handling this.

Hi I just downloaded Microsoft teams. Then I clicked on my profile photo (top left corner). In the menu, click "teams insider programme". Then it will ask you if you want to connect with skype acct etc, click yes / share. Then all chats will be uploaded. I was just chatting on Skype 5 minutes ago and everything is synced. I have a attached a screenshot below. Hope it helps.
