We're having this same experience too, since the ability to modify metadata is fundamental to our staff when using document libraries.
Is there any particular reason this isn't included by design? Metadata is a big part of document libraries, I find it strange this has been left out. Is there anything on the roadmap for implementing metadata editing within Microsoft Teams?

adam deltinger thank you for your reply. Hopefully they will fix this in the future. As of right now it will mostly be of annoyance using required metadata fields in Teams when they can't even edit it from there. Not very user friendly.

- Jan 22, 2020Hopefully! For so long go in and vote for this here:

Adam - Jan 22, 2020Hi guys,
It is by design. Have added a uservoice here
https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/39491842-add-edit-metadata-within-the-teams-file-tab
Would recommend to vote on it to push it up the agenda. This is something which definitely needs to be included in the future.
Hope that answers your question.
Best, Chris
