Increase the number of pinned chats allowed
Hi,
I find pinning Chats in Teams to be a very handy feature.
However, I have about 12 people in my direct team, along with a manager and other individuals I chat with regularly...and, the limit in Teams is set to 15...which I have maxed out.
Is it possible to increase this number or to remove the limit completely?
15 seems a bit arbitrary.
Thanks!

Switch over to the new chat and channel experience. It allows more than 15 pinned chats. Pinned is gone, and you have Favorites and can create other "sections." A detailed video I created on this new experience is here. https://youtu.be/ih9sSSQhrF0?si=Bgs-tMAi4fUaeTYr

This looks like it is exactly what I was hoping for, so thank you for mentioning it! Sadly, it is not available to me (and likely many others here) until it goes to a full release. Corporate policy has Teams locked down so that we cannot use the Public preview. For those who are wondering, Microsoft officially is still only stating that this will be released soon. However, a Jan 14th 2025 article written by Albert van Grondelle, a Microsoft 365 Specialist, reported that this feature should be rolled out in late March 2025. (Link below)
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/updated-microsoft-teams-new-streamlined-chat-channels-van-grondelle-jwmbe/Where I work full-time as a trainer, the chat and channel experience is hitting our tenant for regular users that are not in public preview or targeted release, so I'm hoping it hits your tenant soon. Albert is correct. This was supposed to hit in January, but Microsoft pushed it to March. Thank you!

Ah yes, this is great! Thanks for sharing! Looks like we don't have this feature available to us yet, but I will very much look forward to it. I'll talk to our admin to see if they can turn on the early access feature for us. Thanks again!

This is a big issue for our users. Please just make this unlimited. This limit does not make any sense.

This limitation is seriously dumb. It causes so many issues on my team to find communication or threads for different people or groups. Please remove this limitation in Teams to help improve productivity time.
Thanks,
Joshua

Back in the 90's when we had the very first messenger programs, we had zero restrictions on how many groups we could create. It is crazy that 30 years later, we have arbitrary restrictions that reduce the usability of such a product. Please remove the limit!!

15 may be the limit however I have only 9 open right now and when I try to Add another I get an error message that tells me the limit is 15 and I currently have 15 chats going. I only have 9. How do I determine what the missing 6 are?

Microsoft Teams is a powerful tool, but the limitation of only being able to keep 15 conversations pinned at once is a significant drawback. This restriction makes it challenging to organize and manage internal communications effectively, especially for those of us who rely heavily on Teams for daily collaboration. It’s been a known issue since 2021, and it's disappointing that it still hasn't been addressed. I hope Microsoft takes this feedback seriously and considers lifting this limitation to enhance productivity and user experience.

does not work
- carson2430Copper ContributorI wish this worked, but it looks like they've removed that feature now. It seems like every single workaround we find, they remove. It's like they are trying to make it harder for us 😞

Currently do not work on IOS (17.7) - Limited to 15 chats 😞
Just wish they would solve real issues as swift...
- gilad_noyCopper ContributorI agree!
We have a lot of different topics that each has a designated chat, and it's much easier for me to access them from the pinned tabs.
Please add an option to increase the limit to a value that we choose.
Thanks!! - JayDizzleCopper Contributor
agreed, please remove, or at least let us group contacts together in a pinned folder or something. I have multiple teams I work with. Each with multiple people. if there were a pinned folder for team A where I could drag the members into it and a folder for team B, that would be awesome.
- Anton_YarkovCopper ContributorHello! Actually, the same limit is on amount of pinned channels. It looks weird really! I'm an engineering manager who works with many chats everyday (like, 10+ new chats daily) and some of them are more important than others, but they flip around and it really makes me crazy. I know, that the golden rule is to "limit work in progress", but I don't want software to make this decision for me... So, I want to ask MS team as well: Please, remove the limit.
- VarianJackCopper ContributorHere Here! Please remove the limit.

Hi Anton_Yarkov . I found like half solution. You can add your contact to favorites, and if you change upper dropdown from chat to contacts , it will show you also the favorites .
- Lillian675Copper Contributor
Andre_Juha That sounds like a nice temporary solution, but when you have groups of people in chat that I want to pin to get to easier, I can't do that with contacts. So changing the limit from 15 ultimately is a better solution, but "thank you" for you solution in the meantime. However, I don't believe the contact view will get highlighted when someone sends me a chat, but I have yet to experience it since I just made the change.... more to be revealed. Thank you again.
Hi sammedley
I don't know the reason for a limit, however if you want to make your suggestion so that the product group see it please use the feedback portal at https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/forum/ad198462-1c1c-ec11-b6e7-0022481f8472
- Lillian675Copper ContributorSteven Collier. Thanks for link, but doesn't seem like it's directly related to this problem. Do you have an existing feedback post that you already have? The redundancy or trying to find something is a bit cumbersome. I'd rather continue comments in an existing thread. Yes? No? Seems more efficient in the bigger picture. We should be able to set out own number of how many pins we want to have. We should also be able to have groups of pins. Like meeting pins, group pins, individual pins and have a sort option too. I like though that I can move things around in the order I want, but a quick sort would be nice too. Thank you.
- ChrisBCopper ContributorHello Steven,
It looks like there are many different posts in the feedback portal about this specific issue, with a lot of interest, but I haven't seen a response from MS to date. Do you know if it's being worked on?
Regards,- VarianJackCopper ContributorChris - Looks like we need to post over here. https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/forum/ad198462-1c1c-ec11-b6e7-0022481f8472
