How are organisations monitoring attendance and participation during live Microsoft Teams meetings?
The useful distinction is being connected versus participating. Teams attendance reports can document connection times, but neither a connected account nor an enabled camera proves someone is paying attention. Camera-off time isn’t reliable evidence of absence either.
For training, a practical approach is to combine the attendance report with a few short polls or check-ins spread through the session, followed by a brief knowledge check. Use named responses where individual records are required, and tell participants in advance how attendance will be assessed.
To keep the admin work down, Microsoft Forms can collect the checks, and Power Automate can record responses in a Microsoft List. Reconcile those with the Teams attendance report rather than treating either source as complete proof on its own.
For accreditation, agree on the required evidence with the accrediting body first. A tool that tracks cameras, reactions, or speaking time may provide extra signals, but it can’t reliably certify continuous presence. Allow an alternative for people with connection problems or accessibility needs.
