Hide bar at top of teams sharing
Hi all
When I share my screen in meetings it involves using a browser i.e. I`m presenting things using google chrome.
I get a bar asking me to change my screen size/settings etc on teams. It's frustrating because I have to click away or wait a moment. Is there a way to stop this from appearing??
thanks!
rayted22 I'm not aware of any way to disable it. It's generally needed is you end up giving control to other people.

rayted22Hello, just to add. Even when the pin is pressed and the bar is set to autohide, it still gets in the way of tabs near the centre of my screen. In my work, I quite commonly need to share my screen with my browser, or an application that has controls near the top of the screen. For my workflow I really need this bar disabled completely. I'm using the newest teams, and the bar never goes away fully when sharing the screen. Instead, it gives you a smaller version of the bar which has a red button to stop sharing. This little red button is still intrusive and still gets in the way of important meetings and discussions. Struggling with the controls near the top of the screen because Teams has covered them up is very intrusive to an otherwise important and productive meeting. The pin for the sharing bar doesn't really help, I need the top of my screen completly clear.
- JCoxFCCopper ContributorHaving the screen share bar at the top really causes issue when trying to view content. I have multiple monitors and large screens and I'm not able to move, arrange, or similar. Please FIX this ASAP as it causes daily issues. Everyone on our team complains about this issue. Other similar (competing) products don't have this issue and let you freely move the bar around as needed. Ideally I'd like to be able to move the bar around my current screen and also onto other screens too. BTW The 'Pin' feature doesn't seem to do anything either.
- vvlaznevCopper ContributorI upvote this, this bar is not really helpful, but invasively obstructs controls in a lot of apps. Please give us an option to move or remove it completely.
- jonathan_fittCopper ContributorThe sharing bar is an annoyance, I wish I could move it out of the way like the top bar in a full screen Remote Desktop session.

It's 2024, this bar is still a problem when sharing your screen. It's covering the tabs of the browser preventing you from seeing what's behind it. Can this be prioritized? Zoom and GoToMeeting have already solved this.

Has Microsoft got a solution for this or do we just need to revert back to the old MS Teams? It looks like that is the only option at the moment.

rayted22 I've been waiting and hoping this issue would be fixed for so long. I'm surprised it has not been fixed already considering the amount of attention it has received, and how seldom this incredibly intrusive bar is actually used. I set up this account just so I could come complain about this issue. Please fix it MS
- humph_Brass Contributor
Hey Microsoft dev team, please consider simply allowing the bar to be dragged out of the way. This was always an option until now, when it remains fixed in place and can't be moved out of the way or to the side. Also it's REALLY BIG 🙂 and covers up quite a bit of the presentation, so:
1. Best fix: allow it to be disabled
2. Second place fix: allow it to be dragged, like you could for years, before this latest version broke that functionality.
Thank you.
- UncleAlIron ContributorThe page at Xonfug's link only has 23 likes. I'm not sure how many likes it would take for MS to show an interest in this issue. I'm afraid it's quite a bit larger than 23 though.

I'm afraid it's quite a bit larger than 23 though. It's definitely an artificially deflated number, given that only MSA or Commercial accounts can upvote in those feedback portals. That's on top of the fact that not many know of those portals, since MS went from a 1-stop site for all suggestions (User Voice) to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/uservoice-pages-430e1a78-e016-472a-a10f-dc2a3df3450a (and it varies per product! some use FeedBack Portal, others use Tech Community, still others use both or something else).

There is a thread on the feedback portal where you can vote for this issue to be looked at. Please do so.

MS closed that thread at 57 votes & it looks to be locked (the comment, upvote, etc icons are greyed out).
There is an "Official MS Response" that it has been moved to a "feedback collection" (a collection of similar topics, b/c there were duplicate requests for the same thing). Some of the additional feedback portal links I posted here are also part of that collection now too.
https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/419e75dc-4b8e-ee11-8179-00224827349c currently only has 111 votes (but upvotes & comments are NOT greyed out) & an official MS response of "We hear you":
There are also shttps://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/search/ad198462-1c1c-ec11-b6e7-0022481f8472?q=sharing+bar which have NOT yet been incorporated into that feedback collection.
These and the feedback collection can be upvoted by those of you with a Commercial or MSA (MicroSoft Account, formerly Windowsa Live...aka a personal account). - Star-DIron ContributorYou can only log into any of the MS "feedbackportal" URLs with a MSA (personal) account or commercial account, though. So if you try to login with a GCC email, it won't let you, and you can't upvote.

Please please please give us an option to disable the sharing bar. I have never used it in years of using teams, nor have I ever heard of anyone who has needed it.
- Kim_O335Brass Contributor
FrancisEgan 100% agree. I have never used it either - I don't need it hindering my ability to work efficiently!
- karun-workCopper ContributorI agree. This is very annoying in New Teams. Never fan of the top bar because it doesn't always go away when you click away, not just in Teams but in other apps too.
To make it worse, there is permanent red bar saying "You're sharing your screen". Others can see what's underneath it but I can't. Thanks Microsoft, this was the feature that was missing before.- Andrea2023Brass ContributorI agree with this karun-work; for me the behaviour of this top bar is worse on the New Teams. It was better in classic teams - at least in classic teams there is a way to make it go away - but it seems there's no way at all on the New Teams
- humph_Brass Contributor
Andrea2023agree 100%.
It really gets in the way, you can't move it, you can't close it.
It blocks the browser tags or whatever you are presenting.
The Thumb tack/pin has no effect, on or off. You can't drag it.
It's a massive bug.
People watching your presentation can't see it, so they can't understand why you are crashing about.I have found one workaround: drag the whole window of your presentation/browser, down a few centimetres, to below the annoyng bar. Then you lose the top slice of your screen and you can't go full screen, but hey, at least you can share your screen now, and reach the browser tabs, or point to the powerpoint slide, wwhatever you are sharing, without it being blocked.
In earlier versions you could at least drag it around, but no more.
This is in the current version of Teams (2023 18 Dec)Microsoft Teams version 23320.3107.2575.3762The client version is 50/23113028711
This is using Teams on a Mac, with the native Teams App, not on the web.
- Kim_O335Brass ContributorI am having the same issue. I am a Product Owner and demo to people all day. I can't see my tabs for the share bar in Teams. It is so bad that I am going to switch to Zoom for meetings where I need to screen share which is pretty much every meeting. I like the new Teams with the exception of the intrusive screen share bar. It's a shame to leave Teams just for this reason. I sure hope an enhancement to this is in the works.

Kim_O335 You can return to the old Teams by toggling off the switch at the top-left of your interface:
This will return you back to the original Teams format. I finally just switched off "New Teams" because the new share bar is so intrusive.
A side effect of this, I discovered, is that old Teams and new Teams use different conversation histories, so you'll lose the current ones if you switch.- Kim_O335Brass ContributorThank you for the suggestion. Losing the current conversations is very disappointing and not an option for me. I really don't want to go back to old Teams as I know we will be forced to use the new soon enough. I (as well as others) just really need the screen share bar to be movable. Very poor design/user experience! 😞

The sharing bar is the most frustrating thing. I cannot make it go away. Sometimes it turns into a smaller red bar but then comes back full size. Same as others I cannot use the browser tabs because they are blocked by a stupid bar. I have updated to the latest version Microsoft Teams (work or school) for Mac. What a name for an application!
