I hope Microsoft makes the latest version more widely available soon.
At least there seems to be an end to this in sight for the near future.
All of the complaints I received today were fixed by manually checking, so I'd keep on trying, if I were you.

Looks like the version 1.6.00.1381 is fixing the issues, but unfortunately it seems to have cost as well. Now the headset status (mute/unmute) are not visible on Teams client. Perhaps they remove the support for EnableTeamsHIDInterop on these versions. Unfortunately Microsoft seems to be not too transparent to share what is ongoing there.

If you have access, see the Admin Center announcement:
TM510646: Teams Islands mode users also running an on-premises Skype for Business client hear a persistent dial tone in calls
- StefanG28Feb 08, 2023Copper ContributorHi everybody,
Is there any recommendation for clients having issue like mentioned in TM510646?
Does version 1.6.00.1381 really fix the issue?
I'm still waiting for an answer from MS to an open ticket about this....- alesilva_91Feb 08, 2023Copper ContributorI stopped getting complaints about this since we pushed for updating.
The models we use have built-in hardware visual and sound indicators to indicate when people are talking while muted and that seems to still be working, so we didn't get affected by any possible drawback that this version may have.
I'd say that even with the possible drawbacks, it's well worth updating as the drawbacks would be much less annoying than having Skype for Business beeping and popping up on it's own.
