file edit

Hi

I would appreciate the help.

I have shared an excel file on teams, however only one person can open the file and edit in the desktop app the rest have to use the online excel which has limited functions.  Is there a way that more than 2 people with access to this file can open it in the desktop app at the same time.

It looks the file for editing if anyone else tries to open it in desktop excel app.  Thanks

ChrisHoardMVP  i see you have vast knowledge about teams could you please help me. Thanks

For co-authoring to work, everyone need to use the latest version of Excel. Also Autosave needs to be ON.

    Few things to check:-

    1. The file has been converted to a docx and is not an old format doc file.

    2. There are no complicated macros in the excel file as this will restrict Co-authoring.

Sorry - yes xlsx. If the file is already an xslx then there maybe some functionally that is not compatible with co-authoring. Try opening the SharePoint Site and seeing if there is any different, I suspect not.
