External (guest) users can no longer be added to a Team and previous external users removed!
Please help me, I'm tearing my hair out!
We have turned on and allowed guest user access for Microsoft Teams and all has been working great for well over a year now but all of a sudden on the 6th Feb, one of my users noticed that they couldn't add any new guests to their Teams. They then noticed yesterday that any guests in those Teams they had made were automatically removed on the 3rd Feb.
I've checked every single setting I can find for allowing guest user access and everything is as it was. I've turned things off and on (typical IT move) and still no joy. The last thing I tried was doing this in PowerShell, which I found online from someone who had a similar issue but, again, no joy.
When we try and add an external user, we get this:
Even though I've added that address to a team in the past.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi all,
Everyone in my team is completely stumped! We haven't changed any settings, nothing was turned off or on and all of a sudden on Tuesday everything started working again and existing teams where people were auto removed, were automatically re-added! It's a strange one!
I have a feeling it could be the PowerShell thing I did first and I was just impatient but I honestly couldn't tell you.
Thanks all.

- Someone had to have changed a setting in the guest access checklist somewhere to cause guests to be removed.

Step 3 is usually the culprit that someone will change not knowing it affects Teams and removing those settings will remove your guests too from the groups.
If any of these settings aren't right and you change them, you will have to give them up to 24 hours to then allow your client to invite external users. - stefwilsonCopper Contributor
daviesollie Turns out when you now create a brand new Teams site, it now creates an associated O365 group automatically which has the same name as your Teams site. So you can add your Guests to that group now without having to create a new group then adding that to the Teams site separately. You will also now be able to find the Teams 365 group at the point of creating the Guest in Azure AD when you can choose to add them to a group (assuming your Teams site already exists):
- It's been like this since Teams released if you Mean creating a new Team, SharePoint Team Sites went group connected a few years ago as well.

daviesollie I turned on Guest Access last week, having previously been able to add individuals and then this week am now having this issue too. I have found that you can now only add them if the guests are in an Office365 Group. I created a group in the MS X Admin Centre for my Guests previously so they could also access Planner as well as Teams, which is how I discovered this. See:
Here is group:

Can you add users or is it just some of your users?
Same issue if you add the guests in the Teams Admin centre?

Hi Andrew Hodges, thanks for you quick response.
Any of our internal users can be added no problem. The only issue is with any external people.
I can't find any option to add users in the Teams Admin Centre but even if I could, we have over 500 employees and only 6 support staff so we don't want to have to add someone every time a user wants a person adding!

Have you started your Teams upgrade as that can have an affect on who you can add in?
That screen you pasted isn't as a Team owner - if you manage a any team as an Owner you are not able to invite Guest users?
