Disable channel creation

Hi,

Is there a global setting to prevent users from creating new channels? I can only find a way to disable private channels, but nothing for ordinary channels?

  • miclarsen1 Hi! I believe you're looking for 'Set-Team' and the -AllowCreateUpdateChannels parameter.

Hi ChristianBergstrom Im reaching out to ask if you could guide me through the steps to block Standard channel creation in Microsoft Teams for a specific user via the Microsoft 365 admin center Im already familiar with how to block private and shared channel creation but I havent found a way to restrict standard channel creation for individual users Could you please let me know if this is possible and if so the steps involved Appreciate your help

I have just found your question as I am looking for the same thing. I can't believe there is not a global policy for this setting. We create many New Teams a Month with members of multiple competency levels. Going into each Team and disabling the create, edit, delete options is not effective on multiple levels. As it stands, by default in Teams, any member can delete an entire channels worth of information in a single click. The only option around this is to go into every single team and change a setting which effects all users, including Owners. How is there a messaging policy for preventing users from editing and deleting messages, but not one for channels!

      Hi MagnusGoksoyrOLDProfile,

      Thank you for replying.

I knew about the local disable from within the Teams themselves, but I am looking for a global way to do this, so I don't have to go through every single Team.
