Contact list no longer available in new Teams version
When new teams go live, can I keep using the old version?
The new version only has a chat list and no contact list.
I regularly use my contact list to determine if someone is in the office.
If I must use the new teams, can someone suggest a workaround?

Well I found the People app (3 dots under the pinned apps) and pinned it to my Teams screen. 3 gripes:
1. I have not found a way to keep it from defaulting to my whole contacts list which is a useless list to have for my purpose of working with my team and related teams.
2. I can no longer scroll from team group category to another team group category. Instead I have to close one category to open another team group.
3. I can no longer view my whole primary team in one window. Work around = let 2 people go.

I was looking at this for a user in my organization and it looks like Microsoft may have moved "Contacts" to this "People" tab(pictured above). I found this in the phone section under contacts and was able to pin it to the left side by right clicking.
Is this helpful?

Dianne_NZ and all - please post feedback - there are several posts on the topic. Vote to bring contacts back: https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/search/?q=contacts filter products by checking Teams in the product list.

Looks like it's finally fixed...

This morning I have finally been strongarmed over to the new one with no option of going back, so in one massive backward clusterfrak (forced on me by people who seem to have no concept of real-world workflow) I can no longer see at a glance the online / offline status of my colleagues in the various departments (and beyond) who I interact with on a regular basis.
Formally, just in case anyone from Microsoft is reading this to gloat at the success of their latest attempts to completely eff things up, the "View Contacts" option is not a viable alternative as it's just an address book with no basic online functionality that a sane person would expect to see from a product that things it is the centre of the work environment.
Absolutely ludicrous... if completely in character.- adrianromerolopezCopper ContributorWhile they decide to implement a basic function for many you can still click on the three dots in teams next to your photo and there is a button to go back to the old teams.
Until they return the contacts button to the new teams I refuse to use the new one.- ecvietsCopper Contributor
adrianromerolopez They're not likely to return the Contacts button. But, good news! Using the People app (which was their stated solution already), they have just updated it to restore the online presence indicator in those contact lists. Hope that helps!
- PanzomCopper ContributorYep just reverted back to the old teams for the 20th time. until this simple but extremely usefully function is add back in I will refuse to update to the new teams. How in the world has this still not been fixed?

We need Contacts like the old version in the new........

People app has Favorites are the people in the old Contact list. There is no way to have Favorites be the default (instead of All Contacts) and People app defaults to First Name. Yes, First Name can be changed to sort by Last Name but you need to make this selection every time. Also, many fewer names are displayed in a window compared to the old Contacts list.
- RobClarkeCopper ContributorWe have just started to migrate staff to move over to the New Teams. In the past couple have days we've realised that this no longer functions. I'm rather bemused how the IM app capable of making phone calls does not sync contacts stored in the mailbox.
Is there a user voice open for this, I would vote for it!- abessoBrass Contributor
I have noticed however, that the People App integration seems to be getting better. You no longer need to click each individual contact in sequence to check their status. Status can now be quickly viewed, by scrolling your list of contacts. However, clicking the contact, provides more details and probably ensures the status is most current.
The latest version it’s much closer to what was available in the traditional Contacts List from the old Chat menu. It's pretty close to providing the same info now and in the same format, as it was originally, at least from my perspective.
- RenesisCopper ContributorAny news about the return of this feature in new Teams.
Our company has just migrated and it's a pain not being able to use it, because I had people grouped in different categories, and I could easily find them, now I only have a chat list which is complete chaos.
Considering that this discussion already has 7 pages and new replies are still appearing, I would say it's quite important to users for usability. - adrianromerolopezCopper ContributorAdd this "old" feature to the "new" teams...
