Can't add members to private channels
After creating a team and adding private channels, I can't add members to private channels consistently. Sometimes I can; sometimes I can't. Also having issues adding guests to teams.
- Hi Andrew Silcock
Whilst the workarounds for this issue are
1.) To add via the mobile app (IoS/Android)
2.) Completely remove and re-add user to the team
It does look like a bug. I have raised it here
https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/908686-bug-reports/suggestions/39418315-bug-inconsistency-in-being-able-to-add-users-to-p
I have also raised it internally with the Microsoft engineering team. Hopefully they will verify and fix soon
Hope that answers your question
Best, Chris

I can confirm that we are also experiencing this bug. I was able to add the guests in using the mobile app, but Microsoft should definitely look to fix this! One of my colleagues flagged the issue and was completely stumped as to why it wasn't working for her and it was only because I found this thread that we worked out why.
Makes it quite hard to for me to sell people on the ease and simplicity of MS Teams with silly bugs like this lying around undermining confidence.
- TristanMacLeanCopper ContributorI've been having the same problem. Quickest fix for me was to use my mobile Teams app (Android) to add people. The nice thing about the mobile app is it shows a list of people you can add from the team, unlike the desktop app which has no list (for me anyway).

Cathy_McK we have the same issue (three guests in a team, created a private channel, included two of the guests into the private channel, but we cannot include the last guest into that same private channel).
Resolved using the mobile app (there, the last guest was visible in the private channel list of team's member we can add, and I included them into the private channel!). - John_RichardsonCopper Contributor
Apparently this bug is still occurring as it just happened to me today (3/20/20). Thanks for posting. Hopefully a simple wait of time will provide ability to add today's new members to the private channel. Cathy_McK

I experienced this as well.
I used the following work-around:
In the desktop app, I removed the (guest) members - added them back - then I was able to add them to the private channel.Hopefully this gets corrected so it works the first time!!
ChrisHoardMVP - I voted on your user voice post as well.- Dennis_FritchieCopper ContributorThat worked for me. thanks!
- Hi Cathy_McK
Thanks for raising this issue. A few questions
- Is this consistent across users?
- Is this issue occurring in the web app (teams.microsoft.com) as well as the desktop app
Look forward to hearing from you

Hi ChrisHoardMVP,
I have the same issue. I can't add a Team member to any private channel. It works well with any other Team member. Worked sometimes from my cellphone, but not always.
- davidtaylorjrCopper ContributorI'm having the same issue. Can't add people to channels even though they are part of a team.
- Rafael_ContrerasCopper ContributorHelp. I can’t add members to any team. But my contacts are all there.

ChrisHoardMVP also, I've tried to add several people and no matter what email address I use the "add" option stays shaded and their email address is never verified. In the free version, I don't have this problem. I can add anyone with their email.

Have you turned on Guest access in the Teams Admin Centre?
