Can't add a tab in teams channel. Can not see "+" icon to add a tab.

Hello,

I can't add a tab in any teams channel. It started today and I can't see "+" icon to add a tab.

I've tried to open Teams in browser and same issue occurred. Also I tried to find any Teams configuration to fix it, but I couldn't find.

Anyone knows how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Raquel

Same for my tenant but still there is a mix. Some users got the +buttin back after reboot. Could ms have changed their mind? It's soo confusing.

I'd say they must have...still heard nothing though, so it wasn't a good change. Thankfully they reverted, but still very surprised there was no announcement!

  • Poor roll out.  No notification.  It just disappeared.  And for what?  Why change this? Change for the sake of change is inefficient and makes our end users lest trustful of the product.

  • Seems a recent MC post still refer to the plsig sign (+) so seems even internally at MS they are not aware of the change ;)

I think it might only be available in the Public Preview. Some of my colleagues who don't have Public Preview still have the plus icon in the channel tab bar.

I didn't think I was on public preview, but I did do an update 2 days ago now, and it just so happened that I needed to use that feature, and then went searching!!

    Hi Raquel,

It sounds like a frustrating issue! Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the missing "+" icon in Teams:

    1. Check Permissions: Make sure you have the necessary permissions in the channel. If you're not an owner of the team, you might need to ask the team owner to adjust the settings or add the tab for you.
    2. Verify Team Settings: Team owners can disable tab additions in the channel settings. Ask the owner to check Manage Team > Settings > Member Permissions and ensure "Allow members to add or remove apps" is enabled.
    3. http://policenbiclearance.phCache: Cached data can sometimes cause display issues. To clear Teams' cache:
      • Fully quit Teams.
      • Navigate to %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams on your computer and delete the cache files.
      • Restart Teams.
    4. Update or Reinstall Teams: Ensure you're running the latest version of Teams. If not, update it or try reinstalling the app.
    5. Contact IT Admin: If your organization uses Teams with specific policies or restrictions, it's worth checking with your IT admin to see if recent changes might have impacted this functionality.

YIKES! I just wasted an hour looking at why as well. Very poor communication on Microsoft's part on this I'd say...

  • Are you an owner of the Team? This functionality can be controlled by the settings of the team, if you are an owner you can toggle it under Settings > Member permissions > Allow members to create, update and remove tabs.

Additionally, the functionality might be disabled by your IT team via policy, so check with them.

Perfect...thanks AndresGorzelany   How do these little changes slip through seemingly unannounced, but I'm sure it was announced, but very hard to monitor these changes! And so much time is wasted!

Thank you so much! I and my colleagues have spent (wasted) hours trying to figure out why we could no longer see the plus sign and therefore not create channel  tabs. I don't this Microsoft understands how frustrating it is when they change the end-user experience without telling us
