Drop down box and lists
I would like to see a drop-down box as an option. I created a choose a student and it lists 109 students. I would like it to be a drop-down option.
It would also be user friendly if I could just copy an excel column and paste it and each cell becomes a new option.
Hi Brian,
If you add more than 6 options, the choice question will turn into dropdown control automatically.
Please note that the dropdown control only supports single choice.
New update [July, 2018]
We have enabled a settings in choice question, so you could manage "dropdown" by yourselves.

Yes, I encountered a problem: how to automatically import multiple options into the form in bulk without manually copying and pasting. Recently, I seem to have found a solution that allows data from Excel (or other formats) to be automatically transferred into Microsoft Forms. Of course, this requires using the "Quick Import" feature. You can try searching for "Formlinker Word to Form" to give it a try.

Is there any way to adjust the width of the list options?

Ward Scott no, there is no way to do that.

Once you paste your list, go all the way to the bottom and choose the dots to the right; this will give you an option for dropdown (as opposed to the default of Choice). Scroll bar has been enabled for the actual dropdown. Just created one to test and all is good. Limited characters for options, though

It is frustrating that you cannot start typing and the list is filtered by the characters. Makes it extremely unuser friendly for long lists!
surely there's a simple solution for this.

- TheMightyGForceCopper ContributorYeah, still unusable.
Microsoft are lagging way behind Google on this.
I'm actually surprised organisations (like mine) still use them. It's really quite debilitating. - LuswetiCopper Contributor
Brian Dixon was this resolved? as i also very interested in a solution to this.
- Juan GonzalezIron ContributorI absolutely agree. I also have a large list to manage for courses, and automatically renders Forms useless for this use case. Would like to see it added ASAP. Thank you

Hi Has there been any movement on adding a scrolling option to the drop down list? I have a requirement for about 100 options. This makes the form not very user friendly.

I haven't used this for a while, but the last time I checked it still has not been updated. I know google forms it allows you, but my school uses office 365 which limits what I enjoy using. I also wish they would allow you to have the excel spreadsheet accessible and update as information is entered on forms. But now, you have multiple steps to get it and share it.

- NVSatishCopper ContributorSorry, Ignore my earlier question. Drop down is available when "Multiple Answers" is unchecked.

Zhongzhong_Li , would it be possible to populate the dropdown box from a list on the linked spreadsheet?
Also, would it be possible to create the form directly from an existing spreadsheet that contains drop down box options?
Thanks
Megan
- MeganK001Copper ContributorI found the answer to the above, copy all the cells from the spreadsheet and put them in option 1 and microsoft forms creates the dropdown. Now I would like to know if microsoft forms supports the use of dependent dropdowns? So is it possible for the dropdown box options change in response to one of the questions above?

I second this suggestion. In my classes, it would make data sorting easier if students could select what class period they were in (ex. B2 Honors World History, R3 AP Government). We also ask teachers to evaluate multiple students for NHS induction using the same form, and I would love to have them select a name from a drop-down box instead of relying on them to type the student's name accurately every time.
