Drop down box and lists
- Oct 28, 2016
Hi Brian,
If you add more than 6 options, the choice question will turn into dropdown control automatically.
Please note that the dropdown control only supports single choice.
New update [July, 2018]
We have enabled a settings in choice question, so you could manage "dropdown" by yourselves.
Regards,
Zhongzhong

- NVSatishJun 28, 2024Copper ContributorSorry, Ignore my earlier question. Drop down is available when "Multiple Answers" is unchecked.

Zhongzhong_Li , would it be possible to populate the dropdown box from a list on the linked spreadsheet?
Also, would it be possible to create the form directly from an existing spreadsheet that contains drop down box options?
Thanks
Megan
- MeganK001Mar 08, 2023Copper ContributorI found the answer to the above, copy all the cells from the spreadsheet and put them in option 1 and microsoft forms creates the dropdown. Now I would like to know if microsoft forms supports the use of dependent dropdowns? So is it possible for the dropdown box options change in response to one of the questions above?

MeganK001 The dropdown options can't change in response to a previously answered question.

Is it possible to select more than 1 field in a drop down menu in microsoft forms, if we have say 200 drop down names and I would like to multi select (i.e. select more than 1 name).

Zhongzhong_Li The "drop-down list" does not pop us if the user selects the "multiple answer" option. Perhaps this could also explain why some people do not see this.

Hi NickVanMaele
You'll need to turn off Multiple answers to see the drop-down list option.
The drop-down list only supports one selection at a time.
Edit: I should have added, maybe it should still show the drop down list option but grayed out or something to let the user know that they must turn off the Multiple answers switch.
Cheers
Damien

Any reason why why we can't have a multi-select drop-down menu (with little tick boxes down along the right hand side) similarly to filters in Excel for example?
Its a simple solution - drop down and multiselect aren't inherently mutually exclusive....
Look Forward to your response.
Thanks,

Thank you for the information. It is very helpful.
However the drop down does not appear in mobile view. Can we have the consistency across mobile and desktop?
- Lennin_ChavezJul 04, 2019Copper Contributor
This option should be available in mobile view.
It is only possible to use "drop down list" if its viewed on a desktop computer. If you view form as an end user on a mobile phone, it is not shown as a drop down. We need it to work on mobile phones as well

Lennin_Chavez Do you know if this option has been fixed? I am dealing with the same issue.

Thanks, but I also noticed that the drop down box shows all names and you have to scroll down the whole page to get to the bottom if it's a long list. Then if you choose the name you have to scroll back up to get to the next question. Is it possible to include a scroll bar within the choices so you don't have to scroll down. Definately is not user friendly with it.
- Zhongzhong_LiMar 17, 2017MicrosoftHi Brain, thanks for the feedback. I have added FW the message to our engineering team.
- Luis_FelipeJul 21, 2021Copper ContributorThere was a solution for this?
