Delay in confirmation emails for external email addresses

A new issue has appeared this week, even though no Bookings settings have been changed. It seems that individuals booking a meeting with an external email address receive the appointment confirmation email several hours after making the reservation, whereas the email is sent instantly for those booking with their institutional email address. What explains this issue, and what are the possible solutions?
