How to revert back to mail from new outlook
On windows 10, inside the the old Mail app I accidentally clicked the try new outlook toggle and ended up in the new outlook app. I tried it, it required adding of all my emails accounts again. Some I have already lost access due to lost of password but the old email was still accessible in the old Mail app. I tried to toggle it off to return to the old Mail App but after I clicked it, opening the old mail app still opens the new outlook. Now I essentially lost a bunch of my old emails.

in my app version, on the upper right corner, there is a trigger: just revert the position of it and app automatically rolls back to standart w10 mail- DBakermanCopper Contributor

Well I've had a bit of luck, my old laptop was on the way out and a heavy rainstorm finished it off, so one new laptop later using Windows 11 and it has the old mail system built in! Configured it in minutes so Microsoft can stick Outlook where the sun never shines!
P.S. I assure you they haven't introduced any work around to fix their stupidity.
- YingYYYYCopper Contributordon't see this button, the new version is totally bullshit, need to find other apps for my emails

- AndyTpcBrass ContributorSOLVED for those using Mail/Calendar
thanks to the link provided by LagTJ
Go to:
C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Migration
Delete the file settings.json
Done, you've reverted to Mail/Calendar.- cgrohsCopper ContributorAndyTpc BRILLIANT!!. I won't burden you with the details of the 13-hours-over-2-days it took to fix my problem, but you solved it! Woulda been nice if I had seen this yesterday, but better late than never. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

I've been using this solution for our users at work and for the most part it has worked. However, I now have a user that says the settings.json file is being put back almost as soon as they delete it. Does anyone know why this file is constantly being replaced? Our apps are downloaded through Company Portal, not the Microsoft Store.

Don't look any further, folks, AndyTpc's solution (deleting or renaming "%LocalAppData%\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Migration\settings.json") is the right one. Many in the thread are confusing going back to Mail (the subject of the thread) with going back to MS Office Outlook, a completely different issue.

Worked when first discovered.
Microsoft has since published their method to go back.
New mail is currently a pain "yet", even previous mail was nowhere as good as old Outlook Express Mail...
Good luck.

Here's the official documentation, answers here are bad: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/toggling-out-of-the-new-outlook-for-windows-preview-ec102b39-5727-418e-ae1f-a1805434640c
- Marius40Copper ContributorThis worked for me (second section to come back from New outlook to Mail)
Thank you!

I was just testing out this new feature preview. But it was absolutely horrible. The default Mail for Windows used to hardly take a second to open. But this monstrousity takes a lot time to open. The supposed-to-be-user-friendly-ui is **bleep** so annoying and complex. And to add more touches of crap, there is no option to rollback to the old application.
Anyways, I tried several things and what seemed to be working for me was,1. Uninstall the new Outlook 365 Pre application.
2. Open the Mail for Windows app (It will ask you to open microsoft store and install Outlook and select it as default app).
3. Ignore and cancel it. Again open the Mail for Windows app, keep repeating the same process again and again. After 3-4 tries, it'll open the old-yet-gold Mail for Windows.
As of your old emails, if you have them logged in and if they're being shown in Email & Accounts settings. Then after rolling back to old application you'll be able to access them as always.
This worked for me, hope it works for you as well.

Now I'm wondering if there is a way to Block Microsoft from forcing the change.

Thank you very much for this fix. It worked for me.
The old Mail app worked just fine. I did not like the new app at all. My non-hotmail accounts would not work unless I agreed to store everything on the cloud which I did not want at all.
Thanks again!
Kind regards
Chris
- Belen_gghCopper ContributorThanks a lot for this explanation! Had the same problem and this worked for me too.

I did the exact same thing and lost the same things. I searched the internet on how to revert back. That's why I am here. Some said to go to the view setting, and others to the help setting. None of them works for my version.
- damnwindowsBrass ContributorAlso, in my opinion, the new UI compare to the old Mail UI is absolute trash. Compare to old outlook and old mail it striked a perfect balance between not enough features, and need more actions to perform old tasks like need to explicitly mark email as read after open.
- VermaricCopper ContributorI couldn't agree more, the old mail system worked fine and without any advertising.

Hi, if you change the settings in Outlook, display settings -> Layout -enable , (priority messages and others), it will cause the ads to be moved to OTHER , this solution is also good for unwanted spam .
- damnwindowsBrass ContributorAlso for all the damned souls in hell, desktop notification is gone as well. This has now officially ruined my productive stack. Gonna try thunderbird and other clients as replacement.
- wdimarco66Copper ContributorTry Proton encrypted and enable it to read all your clients.
