Intune New setup Help

I’m looking for some guidance please. I’m new to Intune and I don’t 100% understand it yet but I’m utilising the trial to learn at the moment. My organisation want to implement Intune to manage several internet connected Standalone PCs remotely.

So to be specific I need to be able to change group policy, manage the user accounts, install and check updates, install/manage software, check there is no issues with the PC. Also I want to be able to enrol the device without any user needing to do anything.

Could someone recommend what it is I need in terms of subscriptions and which tools/apps I would need to use. Ideally if it’s a possibility a per machine type of licence would be great as each machine is used by multiple users.

Thanks in advance.

  • The license depends on what you want and how many users you have.

FOr example, we are helping a lot of customers migration to ms365. When they have less than 300 users, we advice to start using Microsoft 365 business premium. It includes almost everything.

With intune/ms365 you can manage the deployment of devices (autopilot white glove)/ Windows Update for business/ deploy apps etc. MOnitoring your devices could also be partial done with ms365... Maybe a tool like Solarwinds rmm can offer you some more.. But in my opinion ms365 while close that gap soon.

If you have any questions.. please send me a pm

DanM19 A few pointers to get you started at least.

    1. Clarify if you are going to be running a cloud based og hybrid based setup (This needs to be clear before you enroll any PC's)
    2. For the apps you are going to need the intunewinapp ultility to create your own custom packages (Link : https://github.com/Microsoft/Microsoft-Win32-Content-Prep-Tool)
    3. I'm not sure if it is possible to do a per device licensing plan, since it is the users who have the license assigned to them. Someone else might give you a more qualified answer to this.

Thanks Hjorthen. I’ll be honest I have no idea what a cloud based og hybrid setup is, or the alternatives? If you could enlighten me I would greatly appreciate it, as I said my knowledge on Intune is fairly low at this point. I did read something about using Both Configuration Manager and Intune to carry out the remote management but I’m not sure.

Cloud based - you will only be using AAD for the users (Azure AD)
Hybrid based - Both on-prem AD and Azure at the same time. This is less flexible and carries over alot of the negative sides of the on-prem AD limiting our options for autopilot and so on.

Cloud based is by far preferable if you ask me, but it all depends on the current setup.
