Intune iOS VPP OneDrive crash on iPad 13 and works on iPad 11

Hi everyone,

I’m at my wits' end with this issue. We have a small Intune deployment with a few company-owned iPad Pro devices. All devices are enrolled via Apple Business Manager using a user-assigned profile and modern authentication.

We’ve deployed nine apps through VPP, primarily Microsoft 365 apps. The Company Portal and Microsoft Authenticator are used for SSO.

Our setup includes six iPad Pro 13-inch models and two iPad Pro 11-inch models. The problem arises when launching OneDrive on a 13-inch device—it either crashes immediately or remains blank without loading any content. The iPad generates a log file which is attached to this thread.

I’ve tried everything to diagnose the issue, including disabling all iOS policies (even SSO), but nothing seems to help. As a test, I enrolled one of the 11-inch iPads using the exact same user and procedure, and surprisingly, OneDrive works perfectly on the smaller device.

All settings, policies, and permissions are identical across devices. Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I am encountering the same issue for Ondrive on my 13-inch ipad pro using Microsoft INtune for SSO. I would be very happy if a solution presents itself.
    Thanks in advance!

      Hi
Just found the issue. turn your 13 inch ipad to side. restart onedrive and it works..... can you confirm? When turn back to normal vertical view, the problem is back.

      cheers

        Thank you for the reply.

Yes, indeed I just found that out as well. It was driving me insane for 3 days. For now this works for me. Hopefully it will be fixed in the near future.

        Best regards

    Hi,

Just to be sure, uninstall OD and install from the AppStore and run. This should eliminate any basic issues. I suspect this will work.

This can frequently be down to a rogue app config or a more global setting that doesn't apply specifically to OD. Do you have any device filters which would specify different settings to different models of device? View the device from Intune and then use Remove apps and config to remove any config related to OneDrive and see how that goes.

Both OD & iOS look up to date, and nothing is jumping out in the log (although it is big). If the above doesn't identify an issue, would log a ticket with MS.

    HTH.

      Hi

Thank you for your response—I really appreciate it.

I tried downloading the app from the App Store using my personal Apple ID instead of VPP, but the issue persisted. After that, I completely removed the device from Intune and Apple Business Manager. Following a reinstall, I logged in with my personal Apple ID, installed OneDrive from the App Store, and encountered the same problem again.

This confirms that the issue is not related to Apple Business Manager or Intune. I have already created a support case with Microsoft, but unfortunately, I haven’t received a response yet.

      Cheers

That's interesting that it fails in the first way. There could still be MAM policies applying in the first scenario.

How did you completely remove, retire? Also, if you completely remove from ABM you can't add it back again (easily). What did you actually do?

I presume you've wiped & re-setup within Intune a number of times to check the build didn't glitch?

Can you try setting the MDM to None in ABM, setting up the iPad as personal and then installing OD. I would hope that would work, but then again, I expected the previous one to work too! Back to basics and go from there.

It seems OneDrive is crashing on your iPad Pro 13-inch but works fine on the 11-inch. Here's what you can try:

Check for iOS updates on both devices.

Reinstall OneDrive on the 13-inch iPads.

Create a new user profile and test OneDrive.

Clear cache or reset the device if possible.

If it still doesn’t work, it might be a problem with the iOS version or hardware on the 13-inch iPads.
