Wrong App Menu For Account

I've been noticing that my admin account app menu is showing up in my regular account app menu in Sharepoint but not other apps in Office365.

Here I'm logged in with my regular account in SharePoint. This account has NO admin access to anything in Office365. However, this is the app menu for my admin account.

This is what my app menu for my regular account should look like (I'm in Delve here):

I do sometimes log into my admin account in this browser, but I do completely log out and then log back in with my regular account and this still happens. I've even done a complete reset in IE11 and it still occurs after I've logged in with my admin account at least one time.

If I select any of the Admin options I get the "You don’t have permission to access this page or perform this action." error for my regular account.

  • Hi C_the_S

Could you send me an email at tomb@microsoft.com? I'd like to gather some more details to help us reproduce the issue and get this fixed for you!

  • Hi Cary,

we suspect that you weren't fully signed out, and in particular, your previous OWA session might still be alive.  The app launcher relies on an iframe to OWA for fetching their apps and customizations, and if the browser session has a live OWA session connected to the previous user that you were logged in as, it would reflect the apps and customizations for that.

Could you please try, in the browser session where you repro this, to start a new tab and manually navigate to http://outlook.office.com, and see if you get to the mailbox for the previous user that you were logged in as.  If so, it proves that the signout process was not fully signing you out of his OWA session, and we can investigate further from there.

    Thanks,

    Anne

When I open another tab, and go to OWA I get the mailbox for my current user (the non-admin). Back on the original tab it still shows the App Menu for my admin account.

Here's what the 2 tabs look like. In back is my normal user OWA, the front tab is my normal user, but with my admin user's menu.

Thanks, Cary. We're looking into it. Will let you know once we find something.

  • I don't know why that is happening, but it would be better to login as admin in an InPrivate session (or in a different browser) instead of doing everything the same browser. Just my two cents...

I agree with Salvatore. That's the only foolproof way I found to do this as well. Otherwise, there are too many variables with various browsers and the login caching issues with Office 365 doesn't help

Yes, the work around is to use another browser, and I do.

However, not all work environments have that luxury so it needs to be fixed.

Thanks for the feedback. I've shared it with the engineering team and they are looking into it.

        Thanks,
