Word app
See whether you can fix by this:
1. Duplicate “My Documents” on Start Page
• Cause: Often linked to duplicate folder entries in Windows’ “Known Folders” or OneDrive sync misconfiguration.
• Fixes:
o Open Word → File → Options → General → Start up options and toggle “Show the Start screen when this application starts” off/on to refresh.
o Check Windows Explorer → Quick Access: right click duplicate “Documents” entries and remove one.
o If OneDrive is syncing both Documents and OneDrive/Documents, you’ll see duplicates. Adjust sync settings in OneDrive → Settings → Backup → Manage backup.
2. Missing Text in Pop Up Dialogs (when marking text)
• Cause: This is usually a rendering issue tied to display scaling, GPU acceleration, or a buggy Office build.
• Fixes:
o In Word: File → Options → Advanced → Display → Disable hardware graphics acceleration. Restart Word.
o If you use high DPI monitors, right click the Word shortcut → Properties → Compatibility → Change high DPI settings → enable “Override high DPI scaling behavior.”
o Update Office to the latest build: File → Account → Update Options → Update Now. Microsoft has patched several dialog rendering bugs in recent updates.
o If still broken, run Office Quick Repair:
Control Panel → Programs → Microsoft 365 → Change → Quick Repair.
3. Content Types Not Matching
• Cause: This usually happens when Word’s content controls (like dropdowns, rich text, plain text) don’t align with the template or SharePoint/OneDrive content types.
• Fixes:
o If you’re working with a SharePoint library, ensure the library’s content types are published and synced correctly. Sometimes Word shows defaults instead of custom ones.
o In Word, check Developer Tab → Controls: confirm whether the inserted control is “Plain Text Content Control” vs. “Rich Text Content Control.”
o If using templates, re attach the correct template: Developer → Document Template → Attach.
o Clear the Word cache: close Word, then delete %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dotm (Word will recreate it). This often resolves mismatched content type behavior.
