Regarding the update on the One Drive storage in Microsoft 365 Family

Microsoft states that existing Family subscribers will move to the new shared-storage model at renewal after the transition date. However, it's unclear whether customers who redeem multiple years of Microsoft 365 Family before the policy takes effect will remain on the legacy 1 TB-per-person allocation until the prepaid term ends, or whether Microsoft will migrate those subscriptions earlier under the new entitlement model. Has anyone received an official clarification from Microsoft?

  • Microsoft has officially clarified that existing Microsoft 365 Family subscribers will remain on the legacy 1 TB per person model until their next renewal after 2-May-2027. Even if you redeem multiple years of prepaid Family subscriptions before that date, the shared-storage entitlement (2 TB pooled across the family) will only apply at the first renewal following the transition date but not earlier.
