Oct 17, 2017Public computers caching emails
Hi folks,
Does anyone know a way please if you can, within Office 365, restrict cached mode to emails for public devices?
If someone uses their own software on their personal device such as the desktop version of Outlook, uses AutoDiscover to connect to their corporate emails, how can we restrict that desktop client from downloading local copies of corporate emails to their personal computers in cached mode? I.e. just allow Online mode only.
Many thanks
Danny
What you are describing is called conditional access. This allows one to apply criteria before access is granted. It's a great feature but it does require additional licencing. I believe you could say access to Exchange Online running on Windows/Mac with desktop apps is not allowed outside the company for example, though Outlook on the web could still be permitted. I am not aware of being able to control caching with this set of features.

Hi Cian,
Thank you so much for your swift and informative reply. I assume you mean the premium licensing option within Azure Active Directory? This is quite costly on top of Office 365 licensing costs already but according to the links you kindly sent, seems to do what we want it to do.
Only testing will know for sure I guess...
Thank you again for your help.
Regards
Danny

I'm glad that was of use. Yes, conditional access is an Azure AD Premium add-on feature, which comes in P1 or P2 options, it's also bundled in the Enterprise Mobility + Security offering. Here is a comparison of the Azure AD editions, for reference.
