Might it be a locally installed AV/Malware software causing issues? Perhaps exclusions are required?
Thanks Paula. I forget about that option almost every time!
It's a valid suggestion and I'll certainly add the exclusions to help but the Onedrive performance on this site is so dire that I feel there's a lot more going on.....

AdrianL30 its easy to overlook but definitely worth trying. I've seen many issues through AV causing some unusual behaviour.
I often find its easiest to completely remove it, retest and then you can be 100% sure whether its the cause or not.
