I just completed the third service request with BOTH Google AND Microsoft Office 365. The senior technician with MS confirmed that classic Outlook 365 is no longer supporting IMAP because MS wants users to migrate to the new Outlook. I think its a travesty as I think that the new Outlook is awful, but that's the final word on it.
I am not sure this is quite accurate of the technician. I have been troubleshooting the same symptoms on a persons machine and whilst I get this error on one gmail account, I successfully setup multiple other gmail imap accounts as a control on the same outlook. I have setup new profile - no help. I successfully used the problematic account on other setups with same outlook windows combination. Next step is to create new login on windows instance. ug.
