Outlook: Adding Gmail Acct. Error: "We couldn't log on to the incoming (POP/IMAP) server...
- Nov 14, 2024
The problem was solved by this method
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/unable-to-add-a-gmail-account-to-classic-outlook-4d9530c5-3f40-4e6d-9b45-4477f160828f
Please check on credential manager, app passwords as well as cached credentials in Outlook, even re-adding the account and make sure imap.gmail.com for Incoming while smtp.gmail.com for Outgoing, lastly check on Google Account Security Setting.

Thanks for sharing all that info. I agree that last I used it, the new outlook sucked. Hopefully, they are making improvements!! How do you get an appointment with a MS technician?

I am not sure this is quite accurate of the technician. I have been troubleshooting the same symptoms on a persons machine and whilst I get this error on one gmail account, I successfully setup multiple other gmail imap accounts as a control on the same outlook. I have setup new profile - no help. I successfully used the problematic account on other setups with same outlook windows combination. Next step is to create new login on windows instance. ug.

what solved it for me in the end was logging into Google and kicking off all the windows logins for this account. Next login worked fine.

I had a feeling that Microsoft was encouraging everyone to migrate to a newer version of Office or 365. This all started with an update. I think I will stop using Windows for any mail and simply go to my Linux computer using Thunderbird. My old computer will not run Win 11, so when the update loads and turns off my Win 10, I will have another computer running Linux

Not sure but I am on Windows 11 and Office 365 with all the latest updates, as of yesterday's patch Tuesday.

Yep, that's where they want us all to be. I am running Win 10 and Office Professional 16. Planned obsolescence, buy a new computer, get new operating system, get new office suite. I am sure glad Google doesn't do that with Android.
