Microsoft Edge Webview icon

I'm I in the right community?

My Widgets Icon on my toolbar doesn't open even with the Widgets turned on in the settings. Could you help me?

I am the administrator. I have the Edition Windows 11 Home Version, 23H2, with a Windows Feature Experience Pack.

I have Windows 11 software and has been updated recently.

Everything under Task Manager, details, mswebview.exe is running, however, the window doesn't appear on the home screen.

Could this be an easy fix?

TIA

Joseph

I’m still facing a challenge: whenever I try to add more widgets to my board—either through the + (Plus) button or via Settings- 'Discover New Widgets', I encounter the “spinning wheel” syndrome, and the customization options never load.

    Troubleshooting Summary:

Installed the' Start Experiences App' powers Windows Widgets, which keeps me informed, entertained, and inspired. Easily personalize your feed for quick access to news, weather, sports, finance, and more, from the Widgets Settings.

However, that didn't fix my issue.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

This is usually fixable, and when msedgewebview2.exe is running but Widgets won’t open, it almost always means the Widgets host or its registration is broken, not Edge itself.

Below is a clean, Windows-11-specific fix path, ordered from fastest to deepest, with no admin-risk steps first.

    Fast fix (works surprisingly often)

    Restart Widgets Host manually

    1. Open Task Manager
    2. Go to Processes
    3. End these if present:
    • Windows Widgets
    • Widgets.exe
    • Microsoft Edge WebView2

          4. Click the Widgets icon again

    If nothing happens → continue.

Re-register Windows Widgets (most common real fix)

This repairs the broken app registration.

    Run PowerShell as Administrator

    Paste exactly this:

    Get-AppxPackage *WebExperience* -AllUsers | Foreach {

        Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"

    }

    Then:

    • Sign out
    • Sign back in (no reboot needed yet)
    • Click Widgets

This fixes ~70% of cases like yours

What NOT to do (wastes time)

    Reinstall Edge
    Disable antivirus
    Reinstall Windows
    Registry cleaners

None of those fix this issue.
