How to Recover Data from a Damaged or Corrupted OST File When Outlook Cannot Open It
One additional point worth considering is whether the OST file contains any locally cached emails that are no longer available on the Exchange or Microsoft 365 server. Recreating the Outlook profile may restore synchronized mailbox data, but it won't necessarily recover items that exist only in the old OST file.
Before rebuilding the profile, it's a good idea to preserve the original OST file and check whether its contents are still readable.
For situations involving orphaned, disconnected, or corrupted OST files, EdbMails OST to PST Converter can be useful. It allows users to scan the OST file, preview recoverable emails, attachments, contacts, and other mailbox items, and export accessible data to PST without requiring the original Outlook profile or an active Exchange connection.
Recovery success depends on the condition of the source OST file, so previewing the available data before conversion is an important step.
The key is to determine whether the problem is with the Outlook profile, mailbox synchronization, or the OST file itself before choosing a recovery method.
