FAQ: Do changes to an existing contract count as a new private offer?

Q: Am I correct to assume that an upsell (amendment to an existing contract) would be managed between the partner and customer as a new private offer?

A: It depends. If the plan is a lump sum/month/year, then new private offer is the solution. If the partner wants to consolidate these to one transaction at the next renewal cycle, the new private offer should not continue automatically. It depends how the partner wants to sell this. If the partner wants to consolidate these two private offer to one, then the new private offering needs to be non-recurring when it is subscribed. Then the partner can set the price for the renewal to include both private offers.

If the customer is currently on a Marketplace SaaS subscription, CHANGE PLAN might be the better option, since it does not cancel/re-set the existing SaaS subscription, and billing is pro-rated. This option is dependent on the ISV to have a larger plan available for customer to upgrade to, which ISV could easily create if one does not presently exist:  Software as a Service (SaaS) subscription lifecycle management - Microsoft marketplace | Microsoft Learn.
