Difference between Outlook Classic and Outlook Web

Hi all,

On off our users has a problem with managing calendars in Outlook. When she uses Outlook Classic to manage a delegated calendar, she gets an error that she has no rights for that. But when she opens the same calendar in Outlook Web, she can manage the calendar and add/delete items.

The permissions for the calendar are set with Powershell: Add-MailboxFolderPermission. With other users this method is working well. But for this user it is not working and Outlook gives an error.
If the rights are OK for Outlook Web, then it should work too in Outlook Classic?

Kind regards,
Arjan

I assume you're in cached exchange mode, and maybe you're using shared calendar improvements... Uncheck cached exchange mode for a second and see if the problem reproduces. If it does not, then you'll have to proceed with a new Outlook profile. Before doing so, turn the cache option back on, then uncheck shared calendar improvements, restart Outlook, disconnect and reconnect each calendar (to downgrade the calendars). Then test. Does it reproduce? If not, I'd still recommend creating a new Outlook profile. If it does reproduce, then reset the delegate user collection. Make note of the current delegates first before doing so, and then setup the delegate permissions from scratch.

      Hi JorgeGPT

We indeed are working with cached mode. But the shared calendar improvements were disabled in our GPO's. We now have enabled this option. Now wait for the users with good feedback....

The user has tested if enabling the shared calendar improvements solved the problem. Unfortunately it makes no difference. The user still cannot remove appointments from the shared calendar.

It is strange the removing items is not working. Adding items to the calendar although is working... This is configured with the same acces rights. The users has PublishingEditor rights for the calendar, so I don't understand why adding is working, but deleting not.

Exchange Online and Outlook Web are both runnig in the Cloud. -- The Classic Client is installed on a Device which has a WIndows Firewall, maybe also a Company Firewall between the Client and the Cloud. I Clould be possible that there is something blocked, so that the neccesary communication isn´t working. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/enterprise/urls-and-ip-address-ranges?view=o365-worldwide

      Hi Semo_NF

Thanks for your reply. I don't think that it is a firewall issue. Other users don't report problems with managing delegated calendars.

ArjanBroekhuizen Its not any Kind of Hybrid Exchnage Scenario you are running right? Are you facing the Same Issue with the New Outlook compared to Outlook Classic.

      Hi Semo_NF ,

No, we are not using a hybrid Exchange scenario. All of the mailboxes are in Exchange Online.
We don't use the new Outlook yet, so I cannot test this.

Yes..permissions are set on the mailbox, so in theory should be the same for both. You've just discovered one of the great things about Microsoft and their different clients!

      Hi Dan_Snape

Indeed, great 'feature';). We have seen this more, that one day all works, and the other day it don't work any more. But most of the time all is working again the next day.
But in this case, it isn't working at all. Is there somthing I can do in Outlook to make this working?

You can try: a new Outlook profile, make sure that Outlook is fully patched, remove and re-add the permissions, try the same user on another device/instance of Outlook. The New Outlook might be an option to try as well.
