Stumped with 'ran out of resources'
Hello all,
I have searched this community as well as the internet, and tried all the suggestions to get rid of this issue but without success.
Things tried:
- Reduced and simplified conditional formatting
- Updated references to giant ranges (now it only looks in a 1000 rows)
- Removed complex graphs and massive tables
- Removed several add-ins (I now only have the Microsoft Excel Labs add-in, and a commercial COM add-in to obtain stock market data)
- Turned off Copilot
Facts:
- My workbook size is 928KB.
- I am running the latest Excel (Version 2501 (Build 18429.20158 Click-to-Run)) running on an up-to-date Windows 11, with 6G of RAM, and with about 2.5G free (no noticeable memory pressure).
- The Windows installation is on a Parallels Virtual Machine running on a Macbook Pro M1
- I have successfully run this for 1.75 years now without any issues.
- I use dynamic arrays.
- The most recent change that I could potentially associate with this problem is the issuance of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 Redistributable (Arm64) - 14.40.33816 (the commercial stock market add-in requires MSFT Visual C++ 2022 14.40.33810)
Is anyone aware of any tools, tricks, approaches or methods to get additional clarity on this issue?
I am seriously running very light - file size and amount of amount of data being manipulated.
The commercial stock market add-in has worked very well for me for 1.75 years with no issues and the developer also investigated the issue but did not encounter any problems in his setup. One cause may be RAM but with 2.5G free how could that be an issue?
I would appreciate any help, pointers and guidance. And would appreciate if anybody knows whether Microsoft provides such technical support for Microsoft 365 Family subscribers.
Many thanks in advance!
Hi,
We have the same issue here. Problem is with latest Office version (2501/2502). You need to downgrade to 2412 and everything will work again (https://www.accessforever.org/post/roll-back-to-previous-versions-of-office).
You can also just change channel (MonthlyEnterprise) and it will roll back to the 2412 version. Let's hope Microsoft will solve this issue.

Many thanks mbc
I am a Microsoft 365 Family subscriber and, as you noted, apparently our money does not buy us the right to easily switch back to a more stable version of the software (or perhaps we got a discount to be guinea pigs?)
But thank you so much for the link to AccessForever. I followed their instructions to roll back to 2412 and have yet to hear an annoying ding about resources 🤞 I hope to stay like this for a good 2-3 months before I turn Office updates back on again.
Many thanks again mbc!

I have now confirmed that three people run into this issue.
- 2 of us run a Windows 11 VM using Parallels on a Macbook Pro M1 with Sequoia and plenty of memory; we also use the same basic workbook.
- 1 of us runs a Windows 11 PC; this person uses an entirely different workbook.
- All three of us use the same commercial market data add-in
- However, the problem occurs even when starting in safe mode when all add-ins are disabled.
One last question I would appreciating being able to confirm that all add-ins are disabled in safe mode, including COM add-ins, etc?
Many thanks!

Yes, also having this issue where only 2412 works. Neither 2501 or 2502 is working. Have you identified what it is on your worksheet that is causing the issue, or is it happening on all your worksheets?

Many thanks SergeiBaklan and JKPieterse
SergeiBaklan- I did see your feedback on earlier threads and looked for such formulas in my workbook but did not find any. I extensively use dynamic arrays that I setup very carefully to avoid running into the super-large ranges issue. But I will take another look.
JKPieterse- thank you for sharing that page - I have tried almost everything stated there. Interestingly the issue arises even when I start excel in safe mode (and my add-ins are disabled) and then open the file that gives me issues.
Appreciate your support and any additional guidance anyone could provide.

Can you share the file after removing any sensitive content, but still exhibiting the issue?

Quite often such error due to mistakenly (misprint or manipulation with grid) formula like
Other samples in this Getting this msg "Excel ran out of resources while attempting to calculate one or more formulas." | Microsoft Community Hub and couple of other threads here.
You may try Inquiry (if available for your Excel) to check suspicious array formula
