Search fuction

Hi, 

 

My excel is ignoring the third argument of the SEARCH function

 

=SEARCH (find text, within_text, start number)

 

It ignores the start number argument.. 

Ex. in EXAMPLE, if I ask to search "P" beginning in 3 (or A), it returns 5 (it should return 2).. Does anyone know how to solve it?? Is it a configuration issue??

    It's correct behavior. SEARCH starts looking for P from 3rd position and returns absolute position of the found text within string. 

    Try EPAMPLE, with your sample SEARCH returns 5 as well. However, if you take 1 as start number it returns 2.
