Python in Excel

I have Microsoft 360 and trying to get access to the python plugin. Not able to see it when I open excel. However, was able to see something like

BOARDFLARE.EXEC..which seems to suggest that I have access to python. I also contacted a Microsoft rep.. who did verify that I should have in my purchased version python..however, I do not see it. Newbie with Python and Excel. Also, I did try to get the python plugin at the Microsoft store but it seemed that it did not load.

Python in Excel is built-in functionality ( not plugin). Thus you have it or you don't have it, there is no way to install it additionally. Please check previous discussion to see on which Excel python is available.

Yes, it is Python in Excel add-on which works on the top of built-in functionality adding premium features to basic python in Excel. It's paid option and it works in same environment where basic python in excel exists.

    Python in Excel requires:

    • Excel for Windows or Mac (not web version)
    • Microsoft 365 Subscription (not one-time purchase)
    • One of these licenses:

    Microsoft 365 E5

    Microsoft 365 Business Standard

    Office 365 E3/E5

    Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise

    • Version 2308 or later of Excel

To resolve the issue of Python not appearing in Excel despite, try to follow these steps…

    Check Your Excel Version

Look for "About Excel" - ensure you're on version 2308 or newer

Click "Update Options" → "Update Now" if needed

See "Insert Python" button in the ribbon

    If You Don't See It…

    Check Add-ins

    Clear Office Cache

    Try to…

    Open Excel

In any cell, type exactly: =PY(

If Python is available, you should see a prompt to enable it

Python in Excel is still rolling out, so some users might get access later than others even with eligible licenses.

NikolinoDE , not exactly. Python in Excel

      available in Excel for Web

available for Enterprise and Business users both on Windows and Web (not sure about Mac), I guess on all channels starting from semi-annual

moreover, it's available on consumer subscriptions

At least I could confirm that have it on Family subscription.

Sergei thanks for the info, I didn't research the exact status beforehand, my mistake.

I only researched online and found that there are still some topics regarding Python in Excel. Anyway, thanks for the information and clarification.

Info: Some users report that Python in Excel was initially available, but then suddenly stopped working (reddit.com).

Even after rollout, some users still experience unstable or inconsistent availability.

Overall, it’s encouraging to see Python integrated into Excel, and I look forward to exploring its capabilities as it continues to roll out and stabilize.
