Need a Scanner to capture Data
Hi,
I am incredibly new to using Excel but have found myself in a job where it is one of the primary files/programmes we use for uploading client inventory to capture serial numbers.
since working there I have found that they use copy and past as their primary means of transferring this kind of data from paper to excel I had read in Google there is a way to turn on the Auto scan which would I believe enable me to attach a USB connected scanner or wireless to capture this data so that it goes directly into the excel file thus allowing streamed lined work productivity (had one data capture where there were 300+ serial numbers).
It would also help lessen the effects of OOS on an individual (Health and Safety)
Is there an easy solution to my Issue

In addition to scanning verses manual data entry, you may want to look at the possibility of moving this data from excel into a Microsoft SharePoint Custom Lists. Not sure how many people you have managing their own excel files, yet everyone could be entering data into a single sharepoint lists...
Then, you can create views of the lists data that are target to each area of responsibility, utilize group by and sort by functions within the views, and use apps (i.e. Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI...) to provide additional capabilities/functionality not resident within MS Excel.
This move to a sharepoint custom lists should increase productivity, decrease employee stress, and decrease wasteful processes i.e. duplication of efforts throuhout your business processes to manage asset data.

Connect barcode scanner with excel
You can just insert a scanner and away you go!
...not that easy if you don't know exactly what needs to be done :).
Would you like to scan the product codes?
Is it your products?...or from other suppliers?
(Each manufacturer or product also has its own barcode).
What version of barcode are on the stickers ?
What exactly is to be scanned? or filtered out by scan.
Which digital environment is available?
(Digital environment = Excel version, operating system, storage medium, etc.)
It is easy to read a barcode into Excel with a scanner, but it is difficult to filter out data if you do not know the digital environment and barcode type.
... but I would recommend getting a barcode software that can be used to read in the simple things without any problems and at not too much cost. You should only include the answers in the questions above in your errand.
