Conditional formatting 1 cell = X% then make another cell red
Hello there,
I have a spreadsheet that is reconciling a short and over % each day and I want to have the spreadsheet highlight a different cell if there is a variance exceeding the allowable amount.
Example of what I want it to do in plain talk:
If P10 is >= 0.5% than highlight R10 [Red]
If P10 is <= -0.5% than highlight R10 [Green]
If the variance of P10 is more or less then half a percentage then I want the cell to highlight notifying me of that.
Following that, how do I copy paste that formatting so it will do the same with P11, R11 and P12, R12 and so.
I'm attaching a spreadsheet with that conditional formatting working. Here's what the conditional formatting dialog box looks like. I created it by highlighting the rows in column R and entering those rules you see (so no need to copy). But if you start with just one row, you should be able to copy down...you will need to make sure the relative and absolute references are what you want.
Just a word about Conditional Formatting in general--I often find I have to make several passes to get the results I'm looking for; it can be tricky learning the syntax, but don't get discouraged.
