Cannot copy cell into formula bar

In the latest Excel 365 in Windows, I copy a cell, and then attempt to paste that into the formula bar on another spreadsheet, but nothing pastes and the original cell then becomes no longer selected or copied.

Editing the source cell and copying text out of its formula bar into another formula bar does work, but this is slower.

I know that copying from a cell into another cell's formula bar definitely works perfectly fine in Excel 365 for MacOS X and I'm sure it has worked fine on other Windows computers I've had in the past.

I searched the forum and found the same complaint several years ago, but no resolution:

Is there a setting somewhere to fix this highly frustrating behaviour?

So does anyone know if there is a setting to fix this behaviour? If not, how does one lodge a bug report for Excel?

You can use File > Feedback from within Excel, but I'm certain that Microsoft will consider this behavior as "by design".

Thanks I have done that now, but doubtful there'll be a fix, so I guess I just have to change my habits.

I have used Excel for Windows since 1995 or so, and it has never been possible to copy one cell and then paste into the formula bar of another cell.

This is definitely possible in Microsoft Excel on Mac.  Maybe it was never possible on Excel on Windows.  Definitely would've made life simpler if it were possible!

DanDan320 You can't copy a cell into the formula bar of another cell. But you can copy the formula in the formula bar of one cell and paste it into the formula bar of another.

Yes, that's correct. If there's no setting to fix it, then it seems a bug has creeped into a Windows Excel release that has broken the ability to copy a cell into the formula bar of another cell.
